Administrator US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration Message to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Class of 1999 Congratulations to the Kings Point Class of 1999. Each of you has successfully completed four challenging years of training at Kings Point and at sea. The knowledge and maritime skills you have acquired, building upon your own strength of character, have prepared you well for your professional careers. As King Point graduates, you will be very much involved in shaping our nation's future as well as your own. A vast array of stakeholders in our marine transportation system have joined with the Department of Transportation and numerous other agencies in assessing its capabilities and in preparing for the future. The goal is to ensure that our nation will be able to support the level of traffic expected in the 21st century in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner for the full range of commercial and recreational users. The vision is to continue to lead the way, by creating and maintaining the best possible marine transportation system. For you, this is a unique opportunity to apply what you have learned, and to carry the Kings Point heritage of Deeds, Not Words into the 21st Century. Knowing what you already have accomplished, I am confident of your ability to succeed. May the values and traditions learned here aid you throughout your careers, and in all aspects of your lives. Sincerely Clyde J. Hart, Jr. Maritime Administrator
