CAPTAIN PAUL L. KRINSKY Academic Dean Captain Paul L Krinsky, USMS. Academic Dean, graduated from the U S. Merchant Marine Academy in December 1 950. After graduation, he served as a deck officer with United States Lines, Inc. until 1955 From 1955 to 1958 Captain Krinsky served on active duty with the U S. Navy. In 1 958 he was appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Nautical Science. During the period from July 1 963 to May 1 964. Captain Krinsky was temporarily detached from the Academy and detailed to the Nuclear Ship Savannah program. He served first as an officer trainee and was subsequently assigned as Se- cond Officer in the Maritime Administration's back-up crew during the Agency's brief take-over of the vessel for training purposes. After returning to the Academy, he was promoted to Associate Professor and in January 1965 was ap- pointed as Assistant Academic Dean and Director of Admissions. In December 1972 Captain Krinsky was appointed Academic Dean. In addition to his B.S degree. Captain Krinsky holds a M.A. from New York University and has the rank of Captain in the U.S.N.R. 29

CAPTAIN EDWARD W. KNUTSEN Commandant of Midshipmen Captain Edward W. Knutsen, USMS, Comman- dant of Midshipmen, is a 1 960 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. In 1 966, at the age of 27, Captain Knutsen was appointed Relief Master of the S S Green Ridge, operated by Central Gulf Lines. Later that year he was appointed Permanent Master of Central Gulf’s S S Green Island. In 1 968 Captain Knutsen came ashore where he assumed the duties of Cargo Superintendent and Manager of Marine Personnel for Central Gulf Lines. In November 1968 he accepted a Maritime Ad- ministration appointment as U S. Merchant Marine Academy Training Representative in New Orleans. Captain Knutsen was appointed as Regimental Officer (Acting) at the Academy in July 1969. In December 1 969 he moved on board and accepted the Regimental Officer position in a permanent status. Captain Knutsen is an active Naval Reserve Of- ficer, presently serving in the Military Sealift Command Office 102. 28

CAPTAIN JOHN E. ARNET Assistant Dean LIEUTENANT COMMANDER DONALD J. FERGUSON Registrar Lieutenant Commander Donald J. Ferguson, USMS, Registrar at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1 964 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science. He remained at the University as Assistant Director of Admissions and completed a Master of Science in Educational Administration. He served in the U S. Army, beginning as an enlisted man, attended Officers Candidate School in 1957 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lieu- tenant Commander. Ferguson graduated from the U S. Army Air Defense School, U.S. Army Airborne School, U S. Army Engineer School and the Command and General Staff College. In addition to employment at the University of Bridgeport, he has held positions at S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook, Adelphi University, Baruch College, City Univer- sity of New York, and Haile Sellassie I University. Captain John E. Arnet, USMS, Assistant Academic Dean , is a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan. He graduated from the United States Military Academy ir 1954 and entered the United States Air Force. After completing pilot training. Captain Arnet was assigned to a B-47 crew in the Strategic Air Command An opportunity to complete the Master's degree program in chemistry at the University of Texas in 1 95S was a prelude to an instructor's tour at the Unitec States Air Force Academy. After the 1961 to 1965 sta in Colorado, he was assigned to Okinawa in a C-13C unit and flew numerous missions to and in Southeas Asia. Upon completion of their jump school, Captair Arnet worked with the U.S. Special Forces. In 1 968 he was a Forward Air Control Advisor to the Vietnamese Air Force. In 1 969 he was assigned to the U.S. Air Force Academy on the Academic Dean's Staff until retiring in July 1 974 as a Lieutenant Colonel. 30
