“VICE ADMIRAL R. R. WAESCHE Commandant, United Stan Coast Guard Although transferred to the Navy Department for the most efficient conduct of the war, the Coast Guard has remained un- der the administration of its Commandant, Vice Admiral Russell R. \\ aesche. He is re- sponsible for the readiness and maintenenee of all Coast Guard forces, and for the performance of those missions assigned (In- Service by the Chief of Naval Operations. Charged with the execution of tlie duties entrusted the Service, the Coast Guard District Officers arc responsible directly to the Commandant; however, in all activities close cooperation is maintained be- tween the Coast Guard District Officers and the Commandants of the Naval Districts for the ac- complishment of their common mission. ”
