“Have Airplane, Will The smart cadet learns early that one of the best deals going is TDY — trips to Air Force bases (and other es- tablishments) across the nation. Trips were a chance to leave the gates of the Academy for unknown lands free of Forms 10, a chance to see what the real Air Force is like, and a chance to stay out as late as you want and a chance for freshmen to wear civies. Athletes know these trips well, but there are other ways to gO: clubs, squadron sponsor trips and of course DSB. CONUS and OPS trips give fur- ther mandatory opportunity to ex- plore the world beyond the South Gate. The wing comments.- I °: " North Gate. I June 88, for the last time. " 2°: " On every trip there are two ques- tions that always get asked of me as I stand there in my cadet uniform. One deals with directions to places in the hotel (hope they tip well) and the other is, ' Do they let females in the Academy? ' (No I ' m male waivable.) " 3°: " I ' ve got altitude chamber tomor- row so I don ' t have to study for the quiz. " 4°: " Once you get used to MAC Air- lines, trips are a pretty good deal. For my AV-lOO trip, I got to miss a whole day of class and training. I also got to wear a flight suit, which was cool. " V ' ^ ' * i. TOP: The AV-lOO trip is usually the freshman ' s first visit to an Air Force base. ABOVE: Christmas leave over, freshmen wail at Denver Siapleton Airport for a bus back to school! OPEFiinG 13 ”
