Officers are elected by the student body to serve the entire year, and the members include all homeroom presidents which serve for one semester. The duties of the Student Senate, as stated in the constitu- tion, are to encourage the practice of good citizenship, provide a clearing house fcr student activities, develop quality of leader- ship, uphold the traditions of the school, and give students a share in the management of the school. Also, to promote a better understanding between students and teachers, create better school spirit and to provide a forum for expression of stu- dent opinion. During the year, the Student Senate sponsors Sen- icr Night, the Football Queen, Christmas decorations, and many worthwhile service proiects. 63 First row: Rcnald Capossere, Louise MacDowell, Fred Moleck, emblern bearer, Nancy Walters, Eugene Fike, President, Jean Gerke, Secretc ry, Bill Tantlinger, Vice-President, Linda Hibbs, Mary Leonelli, Pat Connor, Dr. Kovar, Sponsor. Under the direction of Mr. Philip B. Hill, the candidates prepare for competition with representatives of other schools. The l,037 students and 50 teachers at Uniontown Joint Senior High, along with building facilities, were evaluated by a group of visiting educators February 5-7. This committee, composed of members from a wide area of the state, was headed by Dr. William T. Bean, principal of Butler High School. The results of this evaluation will not be revealed until the fall of 1957.
