FRENCH CLUB GERMAN CLUB -44- On alternate Tuesdays, the French Club met for the purpose of stimulating the students' in- terests in the modern foreign language by becoming familiar with the songs, along with the social and political traditions of that language. Miss Mary Lein- berger, sponsor, helped to eradi- cate certain false ideas concern- ing the character and life of the typical Frenchman. The students tried to look at France through the eyes of a Frenchman, not of a foreigner. Miss Mary Leinberger spon- sored the German Club. Through discussion. reading and familiar- iying themselves with the typical German. the students realized that many current ideas concern- ing Germany and Germans are utterly false. They are not, for example. a warlike people: they are, however, thorough and accu- rate. ln the German Club the students grasped the tremendous good the knowlede of any foreign language can give.
