James Everhart, as the boy in the class who has achieved the most out- standing success in athletics, schol- arship and leadership will have his name engraved upon a plaque present- ed to the Uniontown high school by rhe University of Michigan. Beatrice Wood received a medal from the faculty of the Uniontown high school as the member of the class who stands higliest in achieve- ment, leadership, character and citi- aenahip. Helen Snyder received a scholar- ship of $600, awarded by the Univer- sity of Pittsburgh to a student of high scholarship, leadership and all ajound qualities. The high school and readjustment was the central theme of a program of orations and music presented by representative members of the class before an audienc of more than a thousand relatives and friends. Miss Betty Hoilis explained how changes in industry and economic life have increased the leisure of the masses a8 never before in the history of the world. Whether people use the new leisure in energizing or enervat- ing pursuits depends upon whether the high school offers opportunities for youth to practice the arts, litera- ture and music as forces in the sane enjoyment of a cultural leisure. Abe Horowitz showed how in this age of machine the leisure given us by the machine in industry, the home and tiansportation, may be used in an intelligent way to enrich the nation. Evelyn Jeffreys, speaking of the purpose of music in the high school, asserted that the school today aims to develop both vocational ability and personality, that music, the most emo- tional art, enriches the life of every Individual who takes pail in it either as listener or performer. The music department in the school aims to teach the listener to make the music his own. Physical education in the high school as a preparation for the game of life furnished the theme of an able oration by James R. Everhart. Cultural literature in the high school, Miss Beatrice Wood explained, as being of value in helping us to un derstand ourselves, our friends and our social oi-der through the study of character creations written by masters of character interpretation. Robert R. Darby told of the prac tical value of a high school educa- tion in preparing youths for the new social, industrial and economic order. Rodney Hosier, high school prin- cipal, introduced the speaker and Dr. Charles H. Omo. superintendent of schools, presented the diplomas. Katherine Keighley, talented pian- ist, added to the pleasure of the pro- gram with a piano solo. Rondo Ca- prissioso by Mendelssohn; the high school orchestra played the William Tell Overture and the high school oc- tet sang The Heavens Are Telling and The , Silent Sea,
