SUNSHINE SOCIETY The Union Twp. chapter of the Indiana Sunshine Society was organized in 1927. There are fifty-five members in our chapter this year. The Sunshine Society exists for the purpose of helping others, improving our community and bettering ourselves. Our society has had several projects this year. we sold candy and donated the profits to the library to use to buy some new books. we sponsored a Christmas dance and prepared gifts for the mental institution at Madison. Baskets of food were given to those who needed them. Christmas gifts were given to the first grade. we also sponsored a banquet for the basket- ball boys. The officers are as follows: Mary K. Noblitt ------------------------ President Virginia Hyde --------------------- Vice-president Martha Utterback ----------------------- Secretary Nancy Eads CNot picturedl -------------- Treasurer Sharon Mabry ---------------------------- Chaplain Kay Hankins -------------------------- Song Leader Mrs. Sturgeon ---------------------------- Sponsor ELECTION BOARD The election board consists of students from the Junior and Senior classes. Members of the board are four clerks, two judges, two sheriffs, and one inspector, all elected by fellow class members. The purpose of the election board is to make arrangements for a mock election held every election year. Each officer performs certain duties, such as distributing ballots, placing the ballots into the ballot boxes, making sure that every voter has privacy while voting, and keeping order at the polls. The election board works to make these elections as nearly like real elections as possible so that students may be better prepared for actual voting activities in the future. 33,4 A chapter of the F.F.A. was newly organized at Union this year. The F.F.A. organization, a part of the vocational educa- tion program of the Federal Government, is intended to develop qualities in leadership, sportsmanship, good citizenship, thrift, scholarship, and patriotism in the future farmers of our country. The Emblem of the F.F.A. is made up of five symbols, the owl, a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, the plow, a symbol of labor and tillage of the soil, the rising sun is emblematic of progress and the new day to dawn when all farmers are trained, corn represents common agricultural interests, and the eagle is indicative of the national scope of the organization. Meetings are held every two weeks in winter and once a month in summer. Meetings of the Union Township Chapter are held under the supervision of Mr. Massey. The officers are as follows: John Burgett ---------------- Lresident Lawrence Rybolt -------- Vice President John Baker - - - Bill Cummings - Jimmie Payne - - James McAllister Secretary Treasurer Reporter Sentinel opafin f Organized mainly for the purposes of promoting a better knowledge of Roman life, customs, and language, a better under- standing of the practical and cultural value of Latin, and the interest of other students therein, WCirculus Intimusn has al- so been instrumental in fostering and furthering the practice of better fellowship among its members.
