P 'Q' Ellen Darling Don Fisher Janet Heironimus Mary Kohley Class MoHo Sandra Trump ,-J!Z,QZ7f'774jx Shirley Liggett if C117 Bob Satkoski Class Colors ZZ ,ZELLZLa ,ALIZLLQ Wallace Sellers Joan Underwood iVVanDenbur Marlene Wakeman f54fffhLL,2f.eA,,,2,L ful ZWW Lorene Werner Jack Werner Class Flower Class History Upon entering our first day of our Freshman year of high school many classmates of the Class of '53' seemed to be meetlng nervously in study hall Among the old class mates were Ted Bolakowski, Albert Grott, Janet Heironimus, Shirley Liggett, Bob Satkoski, Wally Sellers, Imagene Stirlen, Sandy Trump, Joan Underwood, Marlene Wakeman, Jack Werner, Lorene Werner and Mable Zarr There were three new students, Don Flsher, Mary Kohley, Jack Ploehn wh1ch made our class a grand total of fifteen I belleve the ep1sode we w1ll remember most clearly of our Freshman year is our Initiation week A week of bowing and bending and repeating 'I love all Sophomores, Juniors, and Sen1ors' There was never a dull moment 1n our green Freshman year Our sponsor was Mr Harry Knarr Surviving our Freshman year we soon found ourselves to be Sophomores We gained two new members that year, Guy VanDenburgh and Robert Welch We were also sorry to see Mable Zarr leave Our only project this year was to sponsor a skating party at the Palladium Roller R1nk After Christ mas we edited a school paper which was called the Millers H1 Lites Our sponsor for that year was Miss Lillian Kelavos our Junlor year we lost Albert Grott, Imagene Stirlen and Robert Welch but galned Ellen lMikeJ Darllng W1th the ball a rolllng from our Sophomore year we set out to give dances and bake sales We also sold magazines and made a profit of S200 OO for our treasury In the first half fo the Junlor year we had Mlss Joyce Beatty as our sponsor, but after Chrlstmas she left to become Mrs Joyce Blackwell After M1ss Beatty left us we chose M1ss Joyce Tam as our sponsor One of the things we will remember in Junior year w1ll be the Jun1or senior Prom, whlch we gave at the Plnola Grange Hall In our Sen1or Year our biggest progect was our annual, the first publ1shed since l9h8 Another high light of our Senior year was the trlp to Wash1ngton D C sponsored by the LaPorte Herald Argus, in which all of our class got to go We are also looking forward to Graduation Day and to our Senior Trlp Our sponsor for this year is Mr Charles Stephens, our pr1nc1pal In ' to make money. We had the concession stand and were able , I 0 Class Poem Bob Satkoski is our president a top flight guy is he, His personality and wit suits us to a 'T' Mary Kohley is her name a cheerleader is she, As secretary of our class she'll go down 1n history Then there's Joan Underwood a mighty Wveep' is she, A quiet and a happy girl we're sure you all will see Next comes the treasurer of Shirley Liggett is her name We certainly do like her and hope you do the same our class, If you like a pretty girl Who is smarter than a whip, Go see Marlene Wakeman, As number one of all the boys we have Jack Lee Ploehn, He likes all kinds of games and and is always messlng 'round We have another athlete Don Fisher is his title, He also likes to flirt with girls, that boy 18 never idle Then we have Janet Heironimus believe me she is swell, And if you like blond haired girls She's the girl to tell Ted Bolakowski is a laughing lad, You'll always flnd h1m happy, but never, never sad Another member of our gang Wally Sellers is his name, And g1rls if you haven't met him, it really is a shame Then there is Guy Van Denburgh, a real tall lad is he, In George's class he cracks the jokes, and goes on quite a spree sports , i 7 believe me--she's a Pip. Lorene Werner is quite a gal I'm sure you'll all agree She always likes to stop and chat, wherever she may be. Then we have Ellen Darling with a blonde streak in her hair, She always drives the old green Buick with every precaution and care. Jack Werner is another lad, who is really on the beam, spends most all of his time, as manager of the team In conclusion, there is another, a cheerleader is she, Also, as writer of this poem, It's been a pleasure to me Sandra Trump Class Prophecy The members of the Senior Class of Union Mills High School will have a brilllant and bright future They were born under a lucky star The blood of students runs ln their veins The strength of youth 18 in their muscles They are mentally alert and physically f1t Wlth such en dowment there is every reason to believe that their star will rise in the firmament I Sh1rle Li et declded to get away from the old grind ,of counting aII,the money 1n the Unlted States Treas ury Department in D C and to travel through the United States to look up all my old classmates I had heard that Bob Satkoski had a Job here 1n Washlng old tricks, fllling the snuff boxes 1n the House of Senate and the House of Representatives After leaving Washlngton, I'm now 1n New York, where I find Sandra Trums a Broadway actress of screen and radio She was just rea y to leave for Reno where she tells me that there are men on the loose After a short v1s1t there, I'm on my way to Detrolt Here, I f1nd hllen Darl1ng has lnvented and flown a rocket shlp It has made 1ts flrst non stop flight around the world It is a shock to see that she has given up the ru1ns of the Bu1ck for a part of the rocket Slnce that, I'm now 1n Ill1no1s, and I'm golng to look up Don Fisher I hear that he is a coach at Northwestern After talking to h1m on the campus he tells me that he in He ton. So, I decided to look Him up. .I found him up to his tends to whitewash the Army team, coached by Jack Ploehn when the two squads clash 1n the Californla Rose Bowl next fourth of July I'll have to see that game After crosslng over 1nto Indiana, I gust have to look u uy Van Denbur h, who is a Doctor of SC16DC6 1n Depauw Un1 versity, teaciing older teachers new trlcks 1n the field of Sclence I declded to contlnue my tr1p through the South, and whlle travellng through Kentucky, I saw a huge sign on top of one of the hllls Upon closer observatlon the slgn read, 'Stand Up Collars, Guaranteed To Stand Up' and 'Price 2 for 25 I peeked into the shack and found that the sales tycoon and promoted was Jack Werner Going on 1nto Tennessee, I f1nd the new song h1t for the season is the work of that composer of tin Pan Alley, Marlene Wakemar The catchy, snatchy t1tle is 'When the Sun S nes, There's No Fog in My Eyes, But You' This h1t got 1ts start at Grand Ole Opry in Nashvllle, Tennessee Before crossing the MiSS1SSippi on a toll br1dge, I saw Mar Koh y collecting the fees, trying to raise some money, to guy soap to kill Koko's fleas When I entered St Louis, M1ssouri, and stopped at a ed l1ght, I happened to stop along the s1de of the famous Iauri Rose instructor, Janet He1ron1mus She has been teach 1ng all the contenders for the Indfanapolls Memorial Day race how to take the curves I pull 1nto Llttle Rock, Arkansas I see a store l1t up w1th a neon sign statlng 'Wallys Peroxlde Parlor' Wall Sellers can be found on the corner of Hair Street and Sca p Avenue He says he 1S profltlng greatly 1n th1s Buslness Dallas, Texas I ran across Ted Bolakowski, who tells me that he has Just f1n1shed writing one of the world's best sellers ln the novel world The name of the book is 'How to Chew More and Better Cans of Skoal' a scientific treatlse It requ1red four years 1n the writln The publlsher of th1s fascinatlng new novel 15 the Chewen Publlshlng Company I guess now I'll travel west Whlle w1nd1ng my way through Crlpple Creek, Colorado, I see the Black Beauty which belongs to Lorene Werner stalled gO1ng down h1ll A I stop to lnvestigate I see that she is proudly chauffer1ng the Pres1dent of the United States I must travel on to San Franc1sco where I'll find Joan Underwood She tells me she 1S booking passage on the Ma flower from San Franc1sco for Newfoundland where she will meet her husband He has flnally completed thelr mi1l1on dollar igloo m8HS1OH After seeing everyone, I've got to go back to the grind, and save some money from the Treasury Department, so I can go on a trip again Sh1r1ey Liggett -1.1 ll! . . .
