A O I KKCIJJ Aalor Our grade school days passed by quickly Finally in Sente-:ber of 19115 we found our selves in highschool Our class consisted of twenty one green freshmen James Gaylor Mary Ruth Evans Bobby Mills Janice Tinney Farrel Cnambers Jeanelle Martin Barb ara S xton Barbara McCullick Betty Jordan Alvin McCurley and Johnny Sarasua Oleita Poplin was cho sen to reign as ozr Class President Mr Barr, Wheeler was our helpful sponsor As th e fall advanced we became more -orientated to the life at Un io n High School fell in line with the spirit and activities of the school and soon found our laces in the scheme of thlllgs scholastic athletic and otherwi e It was not long before some of us had joined clubs had a lace in the bans and were all :Lnspired to se A higher ideals The following year we advanced in rank to Sophomores Three of our classmates Gordon Kirby Bobby Mills and Alvin McCurley left us but their places were promptly filled by Bill Kennard Ronald Mears and Billie Hunter We elected James Gaylor Barbara Sexton Neil Moore and Oloita Poplin for class officers but the most important selection was that of Mr O G Schubert as Class Adviser The year slowly faded from our midst only a memory was left, and we had become proud -Jggjgls The students were still the same with the exception of those newcomers Virna Miller and Mildred McCombs the loss of Farrel Chambers and Ron ald Mears but we had changed a great deal We chose as our officers Bill Kennard Presi slee Reporter and Mrs Lena Pitson Sponsor the individual to whom much of the success of our class was due There were many pleasant divertissements that year, but the two most highlighted were the selection of Barbers McCull1ck Carnival Queen and the enchantment of a delightful even ing at the Mardi Gras of New Orleans fJunior and Senior Banquet J 'AUNT TILLIE GOES TO TOWN' given by the Junior Class was the outstanding extra curricu lar activity of the year The comedian of the show was Bill Kennard who brought credit to himself and his classmates with a serious but humorous touch Credit goes t o other members of the class for their accomplishments during the year Joan Gindt received high honors for her solo in the state music contest Neil Moore and Onis Meier were members of the Union F I' A Poultry Judging Team for the year 19147 U8 and won one county and two state contests Billie Hunter and Oleita Poplin were selected as members on the All Tournament Basketball Team at the 19148 Invitational Tournament Several Students were chosen as members of the State Honor Society In the fall of 1948 twenty four members exu'o1led in the senior class with the last and final step of their school life in view The action of this final scene was fast moving and filled Vltfl mamr delightful events First we recall enrollment day and new faces Bob Garner Gloria Marie Ro y Bernice Masterson and Mary Kathryn Miller We were sorry to learn that Billie Hunter and M1ldred McCombs had not returned We recall the first Class meeting and the election of officers Donald Shook wa s selected President Bernice Masterson Vice President Betty Jordan, Secretar and Treasurer and Bob Garner Reporter With care and wisdom Mrs Lena Pitson was again chosen sponsor by the majority of our class There were many important events during the year Senior Play Jlmior and Senior Ban quet Commencement Sunrise Breakfast Graduation and we will always remember the never to be forgotten important social event that occurred when the girls dressed in gay plaid shirts and rolled up dungarees which seemed to be the fad of the day and with their escorts siml larly clad larked out for Senior Sneak Day Long will the memories of these occassions re main in our minds WX!
