1947 FOOTBALL RECORD SEPTEMBER 6-Triadelphia Starting' off tl1e season with a team that wasn't quite ready for action, Union fell before one of the best teams ever to represent Triadelphia High School, 27-0. SEPTEMBER 19-Central Catholic ' Uoniing' back after a loss, the Iromnen showed considerable improvement in defeating Ventral, l2-7. The team scored two touchdowns in succession in the last part of the third quarter after Trubiano ran for an 85-yard touchdown, which was nullified because of a penalty for clipping. SEPTEMBER 27-St. Johns St. Johns traveled to Ilnion hoping' for the first victory for the Green and White but the Ironinen, playing an impressive game. outscored them 26-7, and away went the hopes of the Ohio-side team. OCTOBER 4-Bellaire Playing' host to the Big' lieds from llellaire. and we do 1nea11 i'Big', Union's lronmen held the visitors to a T-7 score. until the final quarter, when the Big: lieds ll1Hll2iQ1'Ptl to score another touchdown in the last minutes of the game, defeating a hard figllting' l'nion team. 12-T. OCTOBER 11-Follansbee .lonrneying to Follansbee the lroninen played heads-up ball in spite of injuries and the hzendieap of much heavier opponents. Follansbee's Blue XVave finally came out ahead, lil-fi, but only after beating back a stubborn Union Eleven. OCTOBER 17eWWhee1ing Still handicapped by injuries. laek of reserve material Hllfl much heavier opponents, Union was forced to yield to VVheeling s Gold and Blue after putting' np a superior battle and scoring' first during' the first half of the ball game. The final score. 26-6. does not show the fight made by a team which played ball until the final whistle. NOVEMBER 1-Warwood The Vikings, seeking revenge for their defeat of last football season, traveled to Union where they took revenge by a 33-0 victory over tl1e unfortunate tlrangre and Blue. Perhaps the less said of this g'ill110 the better, and Union will hope for better thin,Q's next year. NOVEMBER 8-Cameron Coming back after a 33-tl defeat at the hands of NVarwood, Union rompcfd . . - 's over the Uanieron Purple Dragxnns for a 39-0 victory. NOVEMBER 15-Moundsville Endingg' a rather 1n'wuccessf'ul season. Union was defeated by a very much stronger Monndsville eleven in a sea of mud by a score of 41-0. page fifty
