The election of the queen and her attendants had been held according to the rules of a primary election. The attendants were Belva Mitchell, Sandra Schisler, freshmen, Kay Reynolds and Judy Smith, sophomores, Reba Neilson and Gertrude Walters, iuniorsp Evelyn Miller and Marilyn Houston, seniors. The queen of the student body was Aleda Deckard. This year for the first time, the queen wore a robe and crown which will be kept here for the use of the future queens. Also this year the queen and her attendants rode together on a colorful float. On this float was the queen's throne, another tradition for the following years. The captain-elect, Joe Hall, escorted the queen down the football field to be crowned. This also was a new event. After the game there was the traditional homecoming party. This was one of the most colorful parties Union has ever had. W J?" f' X rf W, Y, Q 5 R :'14if55'iAdi'm9ft ff ,,v f imyml hir, i. s ' Pres. Aledo Vice-Pres. Sec. Treas. Our band, though small but mighty, has improved since last year. Al- though we did lose two capable seniors, still we have gained about twelve new members this years The band is now totaling about forty- Five. To show the progress of the band, since last year, we have giv en several special programs at the basketball games. These programs have been well received. Several of the band members participated in the Sullivan county Festival. Union, well known For its music, has three choral groups this year. Mixed chorus consists of about sixty-Five students. The mixed chorus sang special numbers at the district festival at Linton. Chorus also sent several mem- bers to the State Choral Festival in Indianapolis. The boys and the girls in chorus have been work- ing hard For some of their choral programs. We were always proud to have the special groups who have .participated in our various programs. 56 Music 2-x .
