We know she has been enjoying her stay ever since her arrival on August 18, but undoubtedly she can't wait to return home in July to share her experiences with her friends. Pam, who marked her 18th birthday in February, is a bright and pretty girl with many interests such as music, languages, and books. During her years at U-E she was a model for Fowlers and continued to pursue this hobby while residing in Japan. Parn lists attending college as her future plans and has been accepted at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Carol lived with the Hector Salgado family in Miramar, Buenos Aires, South America. Miramar is located on the ocean where she enjoyed swimming during their summer months of December, January, and February. Carol was in the Catholic Girls School for Teacher Train- ing from August to the first of December. When school was let out for the summer, Carol and her classmates went on an , V 11-day trip to the Andes Mountains. She reported that this is a beautiful country. Her Rotary sponsors in Miramar reported that she spoke Spanish rapidly, fluently, and correctly but with an American iw accent. She never took Spanish here at U-E. School started in March again and she will be coming . f home during the summer. Her plans for the future are to re- 1 . Pam Havens turn to U-E to finish her senior year. Carol Wallis John, our exchange student from Sweden, came from Hasslehom in July. You know him by his casual friend- liness and warm, quick srnile. John is an athlete who has an avid interest in tennis and skiing. He planslon becoming a Civil Engineer in the future. We wish John a good trip back home when he returns in July and hope he has had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in our country. John Giers Imagine the surprise and delight you would feel if you had just experienced your . r first snowfall. Add this to the big, wonderful, new experience of going to school in a M: ,p n different country and your thoughts flow to Maria Torres. ,J Friendly but a bit shy, this happy twenty-year old has been experiencing some- - J' W thing new and different every day since she arrived here from Cartago, Costa Rica, in W August. Because of her warm personality and enthusiasm, we know that Maria will do well when she continues college in Pennsylvania. i Q Maria Torres 88 CLASS NOTABLE PRETTIEST ....... MOST HANDSOME .... The Club's function is to promote student enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and responsibility among its members, whose number by the way has reached a new high in UE's history. To help finance the purchase of new V.C. jackets, the Varsity Club- ers sponsored a donkey basketball game. Besides its monetary value, this extra curricular activity pro- vided a pleasurable time for the community 8a school students but even more important brought the faculty 8a students together in something other than school work. Other activities include selling U.E. stickers, programs at Section IV Wrestling Final's and refresh- ments at track meets. Of course, the Varsity Club members can be found at all sports events urging fellow members 84 students on with a strong cry of "Go Tiger!" gm' 'im 8 1 "L 145 MARCHI G BA D ROW ONE: Lorraine Smith, Lorraine Rackett, Betty Jane Petrak, Dave Allen. The band is made up of six units-the band musicians, the Tigerettes, colors, color-guards, Ma- jorettes, and rifle Squad. All of these units are trained to drill as one. Each year two drum majors are selected by au- dition-a girl and a boy-to lead the band through all of the football shows and parades. The band begins drill during August and continues working from one to one and a half hours after school each day for ten weeks. It is hard work but worth every minute of it. Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis International, a very highly acclaimed organization consisting primarily of most prominent men. Every year Key Club is responsible for the football programs issued at all home football games. They also devise a student telephone directory which is given to all faculty members and distributed to in- terested students. Key Club sponsors parties for needy children at such times as Christmas, Halloween, and Easter. They are also approached by many high school organizations to act as ushers for such school activities as plays and musicals. There are many reasons why Key Club always seems to succeed in every endeavor. One reason is through their advisor, Mr. Fred Kennedy. Every young man knows it is an honor to be in Key Club and is happy in serving it. 156 DRAMA CLUB is 11A RQW ONE: pat Keeney, Debbie Sangky, Corinne Goguen, Linda Ulsh, Pat Stokem, Pat Prosch, Maria Romanowski, Ginger Stinavage. In the past few years such standard hits as Pygmalion, You Can't Take It With You, Laura, and Are Teachers Human? have been staged by the hard-working members. Drama Club is educational in that members are given the opportunity to learn stage tech- niques and to practice them before small groups in a workshop atmosphere. And it is fun, too, for parties are held and trips to see plays are taken each year. This year the U-E Drama Club was one of four Broome County high school groups invited to participate in the First Annual Roberson Memorial Drama Festival. ' I 1 1 157 TEACHER OF THE YEAR This year, the Italian Club sponsored a Teacher of the Year contest. The object of this contest was to give the U-E Student Body the opportunity to choose two teachers who they felt deserved recognition for all the time and effort they have dedicated to their profession and to their students. Mr. Frank Sorochinsky, who teaches chemistry and physics, came to U-E in 1959. Mr. Sorochinsky was formerly a coach for the U-E football team but now spends most of his time training U-E boys for the wrestling team. The students paid a penny for each vote which they cast. Mrs. Ann Stone, who has been teaching secretarial courses in U-E High School since 1961, well deserves the title of Teacher of the Year. For the past four years, Mrs. Stone has devoted much of her time co-advising for the U-E yearbook, the THESAURUS, and she has helped make it a great success.
