MESSAGE FOR 1957 SENIORS Over a period of years millions of people have sat under the big-top to watch the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey circus. A few months ago the circus management an- nounced that it was discontinuing its tent shows and making plans to appear in auditoriums in various parts of the country. The circus will go on because it has adapted itself to chang- ing conditions. Life is like a circus. We become accustomed to the vo- cation of our choice, to a certain income, to a way of living, and then changing conditions force us to make new plans. If we can adapt ourselves to these conditions, we can be assured that we have a high degree of functional intelligence--the kind of intelligence which enables us to adapt ourselves to new situations. While preparing oursleves to face changes in our material environment, we can gain a sense of security by remember- ing that there are some truths which do not change. These, which are largely in the field of philosophy and religion, give us a means of evaluating material changes and a basis for deciding whether to accept them or resist them. Wm. J. Krum, Ir. BOARD OF EDueATION OF THE ENDICOTT SCHOOL SYSTEM LEFT to RIGHT Mr Harold McGowan, Mrs Gertrude Calleog Mr. Mearle Diles, presidentg Mrs. Lenore The Union Endicott Student Body owes a great debt of gratitude to these citizens who give so un- selfishly of their time and energy to help provide us with a fine education. 4

Circus: a company of performers, a perfor- mance, the arena surrounded by seats. During your three years of senior high, each phase has been in evidence. To reach your goal of grad- uation you have had certain tasks to do. The ful- fillment of these has been shown in the results of your tests, in your concerts, plays, athletic contests and in your service to the community. After gradu- ation as you move to the next arena may you be truly successful. Mary L. Pitkin TO THE CLASS OF 1957 The need of our country today is for more people to develop their creative ability. To do so, each of us must gain a sense of our own dignity and worth, Then we must have faith and belief in the impossible. Many inventions have come about which at first were considered impossible, but someone's faith and persistent experimentation finally succeeded. We never attain our goals if we take the attitude that there is no use trying. Our country can progress only as individuals develop their skills and preserve their ideals. Let us all do our share. De Witt S. Woodard 6
