SENIOR CLASS Witnesses: , Principal Sponsor gfckufafzq ln August of 194-5, twenty little Badgers started to school under the guidance of Bernice Martin. They were Billy Joe Shepler, Kathryn Burnau, Mary Lou Snider, Sharon Comfer, Janet Boxell, Lillian Osborn, Susan Cooper, Dixie Dennis, Lewis Sink, Gerry Bender, Mary Lou Wolf, Bob Sickafus, Bob Caley, Bob Smith, Norman Wall, Dick Melton, Jim Corell, Mike Moorefield, Mary Lou McBride, and George Hoopin- garner. During our second yearour class was divided into two sections. Half of the class had Bernice Martin again and the rest of us had Florence Shorey for our teacher. We gained four little Badgers this year bringing our total to twenty-four. Those who came this year were Barbara Smith, Lynn Dafforn, Billy Levy, and Chester Haines. Our teacher during our third grade was Miss Shorey. We had three new members in our class this year. They were Vaunda Omspaugh, Elva Brandt, and Charles Ulrich. We had a total of twenty-seven little Badgers this year. When we started our fourth grade, we realized we had lost several members of our class, and we had only one new student. Those that left were Mary Snider, Sharon Comfer, Susan Cooper, Dick Melton, Micheal Moorefield, Billy Levy, Elva Brandt, Charles Ulrich, and Barbara Smith. The one new member of our class was Arthur Farrell. Our teacher was Mrs. Lesh, who had nineteen students under her supervision. Again during our fifth grade, our class was divided into two sections. Guinevere Lesh taught one half and Eulala McLean taught the other half. This year Janet Quack- enbush came from Ft. Wayne and Jerry Schwartz joined our class after moving from Muncie. Phil Bunsold and Eddie Weisenauer came to bring our total to twenty-three. Our sixth grade we had Mrs. McLean again for our teacher. .lane Gardenour came from Rockcreek and Ronnie Galloway came from Allen County. Doug Taylor and Bobby Osborn both joined our class this year. Gerry Bender moved to Rockcreek and Bob Sickafus moved to Ossian. Arthur Farrell and Vaunda Omspaugh also moved away. The next year as seventh graders, we were excited to get to go upstairs and have all the high school teachers as our teachers. This year we gained Joe Spears from Arkansas. As eighth graders, we gained one student, Sharon Brown, and lost Bob Osborn, Joe Spears, Chester Haines, Mary Lou Wolf, and Phil Bunsold. The next year we were green freshmen. This year we had three new members in our class. John Cupp came from Rockcreek. We also gained Walter Keown and Peggy Sanderson. We started to raise money for our senior trip by having a skating party. Our sophomore year we gained Doris Story and lost Peggy Sanderson and Walter Keown. We checked coats at ball games to raise money. When we were juniors, things really began to happen when we ordered our class rings. We gave our class play "Meet the Folksf' had a scrap drive, sold concessions at the ball games, and had a chili supper to raise money. We gained one member, who was Hollis Smith, and lost Doris Story. Our last year came before we knew it. We didn't have any new members in our class. Bob Smith quit school to join the Navy. This year we gave our play entitled "Aunt Emmaf, sold magazines, sold Christmas cards, and had a chili supper to raise money for our trip fund. We published the school paper and the annual. Not long after the school year started, we had our pictures taken. We ordered our invitations and name cards and our caps and gowns. After four years of hard work, we finally had enough money to go to Washington, D. C. and then on to New York. We re- turned home in plenty of time for graduation May 5 and 6. All good things must come to an end, and so it is with our twelve years of school- ing. As we say goodbye to our classmates and faculty, we wish happiness and under- standing, such as we, the Seniors of '57, have received, to all the future seniors of Union Center High School. The Seniors of ,57 The Class of '57-no better could you find- Give to you this prophecy, sealed and signed. In '82 the stars tell me This is how our class will be. Look to the sky and what do you see? A jet in the hands of Lewis D. If you value your life, here is a clue, Don7t go for a ride with little Lew. If you are sick and about to die On Kathryn Burnau you can rely. She is now a medical vet., And she hasn't lost a case yet. Jerry Schwartz is a CPA And the money he makes just ainit hay. He lives out of town in a little old shack And through the middle runs a railroad track. If you go to Washington, D. C. Janet is who you might see. If you're in trouble, don't you cry, Because she's at the head of the FBI. When it comes to farming in the mid-west Jim Corell is classed among the best. He raised crops and animals too, But for kids there are very few. We walked into an office and whom did we see But Janet Boxell on the boss's knee. Being a secretary is mighty fine Just ask Janet about it sometime. Of John Cupp we are proud and happy Although in school he was quite sappy. Of Standard Oil he now is king He sits around and doesn't do a thing. On the Broadway stage, possibly Dixie Dennis is whom you will see. She is a real society dame Who suddenly rose to greatest fame. Doug Taylor is a famous baseball star, His athletic feats are known near and far. He throws like a bullet and runs like a deer When Taylor's around, there's always a cheer. Sharon Brown is still looking For a man to do her cooking. There's one thing she can't stand And that's a man who cooks from a can. A football player he wants to be With the Zanesville Hawkeyes he can see. Here comes Bill Shepler with a dipper It's too had he broke his flipper farmj . The other night at Carnegie Hall We saw Hollisis picture on the wall. She was dressed in a gown so fine Featured as singer with her symphony-nine. George Hoop. seems to have done quite well We see his fleet of truck go down the road pell- mell. If by chance you are moving West, Call in George, 'cause he's the best. Mary Lou is married now She has a husband, 13 kids, and a Holstein cow. Her family is living with her dad With all those kids, I'll bet he's sad. Lynn Dafforn lives in Texas, a multi-millionaire, He owns 15 airplanes and always travels by air. He made his money selling horses, of which he's very fond He has a little hair left, but none of it is blonde. Lillian Osborn is now the boss Of the International Red Cross. In any disaster sheill do her best To help needy people find food and rest. Ronnie Callaway is a mathematical brain He can work any problem without much strain. He may have the formula some day soon On how to get the people back from the moon. At a women's college, Norman Wall is a teacher The girls say that he is their number one feature. In conducting his classes he tries his best But with a group of girls-Oh! what a mess. On Bob Caley's Agricultural Testing Farm Growing anything is but a charm. He does all his for Purdue I bet if you asked him, he'd help you too. To the authors of this masterpiece, we give the highest praise For all the hours that they spent on it for several days. We wish the best of health to each member of our class, And through the years we hope that this success will last.
