JUNIOR CL6So nab.. EPTEMBER 1942 the Freshman Class assembled Wlbh Coach Brummage as thelr dlrector They were very green and had much to learn They were Glad to welcome four new students Mlldred New Frank Jarvls Glenn Snlder and Richard Howe Glenn and Frank were transferred ln the second se mester The class elected Bobby Adams as Presldent Lorralne Prlce as V1ce Pres ldent Jean Stenger as Secretary Treasurer and Emma Jane Smlth as Class Hls torlan The Freshman Class was far rn the lead of the scrap drlve sponsored by the Vo Ag Department of the school and recelved the prlze of five dollars The school year came to a close wxth a much wlser class wa1t1ng to start out better the next year In the fall of 1943 thlrty seven Sophomores gathered under the leadershlp of Coach Brummage to start the second year of our chmb up the Ladder of Knowledge toward the goal of high school students-Semordom The class offlcers mcluded Bobby Adams presldent Bernard Haggerty v1ce presrdent Emma Jane Smith secretary treasurer Evelyn Varner class h1stor1an and Glenn Snlder and Jean Stenger as Student Council representatlves only there wasn t any Student Councll Uncle Sam called our sponsor Coach Brummage 1nto the army and we re turned from Chrlstmas holldays to greet K F Fldler who took over Coachs dutles Several members of our class were actlve In band athletics F F A Glee Club and other act1v1t1es Two members of our class Jean Stenger and uer trude Gabrlel were elected as cheerleaders along Wlbh June Allman a J un1or We are very proud of these glrls and thelr assistance to the school We were glad to welcome some new members to our class Ardelle C stley V1rg1n1a Boggs Jack Drennan Charles Dobbmns Jr and Russell Rlffle We also welcomed back Glenn Snlder and Barbara Hurst Betty Ross and Emma Jane Smlth led us ln cheermg our boys almost bo vlctory over the senlors ln the class basketball tournament Although we were defeated we played a very good game and we were proud to call those boys mem bers of our class On Aprll 5 the Sophomores held thelr annual class party ln the gym and spent a very enjoyable evenlng dancmg alnd playlng games Durlng the vear we were sorry to lose Jean Case Kelth Bumgardner Jo.hn Our class 1S represented 1n the Unlted States Navy Altnough we were very sorry to lose them we are proud of the fafct that Charles Dobblns and Bernard Shepherd are help1ng to defend our great land and maklng 1t pOSS1b19 for us to contlnue as a class ln Hlgh Schlowol Wlth an enrollment of thirty seven we ended that year of hard work wlth the hope of assemblmg again next year and far surpasslng all our present rec ords The Junlor Class assembled 1n September 1944 wlth the same dlrector and pra tlcally the same students maklng aln enrollment of thlrty flve We were glad to welcome Freda Wyckoff Dane W1ll1ams and B111 F1tI'I0 as new members of our class Charles Dobblns was back with us agaln after recelv mg an honorable dxscharge from the Navy Lela Bates Jomed us later These famlllar faces were not seen however Jack Drennan Ray Courtney Dlck Clevenger V1rg1n1a Boggs Dlck Howe and Joe Horner We later lost Glenn Snlder Rosemary Laurent and Bernard Haggerty the latter going 1nto the army but soon returnlng to be Wlth us agaln B111 Fltro also left The only change IH oifxcers from the prevlous year was ln the vlce preslden cy and representatlon Russell Rlffle filled the first offlce and Jean Stenger Mary Jean Evans and Evelyn Varner were elected as representatlves ln the Stu dent Councll Thls year our class won the class basketball tournament and also several of our boys won 1nd1v1dual honors To help ralse money for our Junlor Senxor Banquet we set a record ln mag azme sales for our school clearlng approxlrnately elghty dollars over a perlod of two weeks Our Junior Chapel Program was held January 12 and proved to be very en tertalnlng We presented a muslcal varlety program ending up with a black face play The Junlor Play TIDLOC Inn was gxven April 19 a grand success A lovely and lmpresslve banquet was held May 24 and brought our school year to a close wlth us 100kl1lg forward excitedly to the last year of our schoo hf e Respectfully submltted EVELYN VARNER Class Historian N . , U 2 , , v ' - . - 5 i .'
