HE activities of the juniors have been curtailed this year because
of lack of funds. Owing to the efforts of President Harold Ashton
and Treasurer Meno Onomiya, enough money was collected to sponsor a
junior dance on May 8. Witli May Day as its theme, this dance proved
a huge success.
One issue of Ukiah Hi Talk, written in the manner of Time Maga-
zine, was sponsored by the junior English classes and Mrs. Beaufort, the
third year English teacher. It was the most original and clever edition
of the year.
A number of the juniors also contributed their talents toward articles
for the Christmas edition of the school paper. Many contributions of
juniors on "My Idea of What Christmas Means" were printed.
N amateur radio hour was the clever means taken by this year's
sophomores to initiate the freshmen this past fall. Bradford
Wilson at the microphone discovered much talent.
In observation of the Mark Twain Centennial, Miss Giles' section
in sophomore English presented a program before the student body last
November. The whitewash scene from "Tom Sawyer" was dramatized,
with the following cast: Tom Sawyer, Bud Prather, Huckleberry F inn,
Bradford Wilson, Aunt Polly, Phyllis Jordan, Billy, Bill Prather, Becky
Sharp, Frances Hubbard, Johnnie, Arthur Mayhew, Ben Rogers, Robert
Locke, jim, Robert Fairbairn. Charles Parker's eulogy of Mark Twain
was exceptionally fine.
The school went "hill-billie" for the sophomore dance. The gym
was turned into a barn with a buggy, baled hay, and chickens scattered
about. The guests came dressed as farmers and farmerettes, and prizes
for the cleverest costumes were awarded.
huge sprig of mistletoe hanging from the center of the ceiling, fir
and holly boughs with huge red crepe paper bows, and two lighted
Christmas trees were the decorations in keeping with the season when
the freshmen entertained the student body on December 6.
On November 8 the freshmen presented a stirring Armistice pro-
gram. Musical numbers, recitations, and a toast to the flag were num-
bers given. The student body is looking forward to another entertaining
assembly to be presented by this same class before the end of the year.
