Uklhrinhshille A hundred years ago a village, then known as Uhrich's Mills, was laid out on the site of the present city of Uhrichsvilleg the infant community was dignified by the possession of a post office and a school, where the youth of the settlement learned their three r's. The village was incorpor' ated in 1893 as Uhricksville, the spelling being modified in 1890 to its present form. These hundred years have witnessed many changes, not the least of them in the schools. At first a onefroom school sufficedg for a time, after a disastrous fire in 185 2, there was no school building at all. In 1867, with the election of a school board, the educational program was ex' panded to such a degree that six teachers were required, in 1874 a twelve' room building, the old Main Street building, was erected on the ground now occupied by the Central High School. At the present time there are three buildings occupied by 1709 pupils, who are instructed by a staff of 47 teachers. 26
