Senior High Student Council 46 strong, the Senior High Student Council has sponsored many worthwhile projects this year. One of the main activities was held the first week of school. This was 'Howdy Week' and was for the purpose of introducing new students and getting everyone acquainted. To end this week a dance was given for the jr. and Sr. High. The Cherrie Thompson Cancer Drive was another project. The first 8250 of the drive was given to Cherrie to help pay for an artificial leg, and'the re- maining money was given to Ann Carpenter to help meet medical expenses. Another project was the Chapel services. These were held first semester, and different ministers spoke at each service. They proved to be very in- spirational to all who attended. Christmas and Thanksgiving, baskets were filled with food and given to those who could not provide dinners of those days. Admission to a dance was a toy and these toys helped many families play Santa Claus at Christmas. Delegates were sent to the S.A.S.C. Convention at Tulsa, the State Convention at Lawton, and the offi- cers attended a workshop at Norman this summer. The sponsor of this important organization is Mr. Maurice Walraven. The purpose of the U.S. Grant Thespian Society is to further the interest of the students at Grant in the legitimate theatre and the art of acting. Our activities this year have been limited by a lack of facilities necessary to the production of a play. Bottom Row: Allspaw, Vice Presidentg Wheeler, President. The Highschool Humanities Club of U. S. Grant is a very well organized and dutiful club, very few of us realize that some of the students at Grant enjoy the finer points of literature, art, music, philosophy, psychology and the worlds religions. In this club it's members are striving to better themselves toward moral, mental, and physical perfection. These students are willing to do a little prospecting for intellectual nuggets on their own time. Operating on this promise, the club strives, through the medium of Humanism, to re- ward these students by providing them with a small share of those things which are essential to richer, more meaningful lives. While achieving this purpose the club has elect- ed new officers: Pres.,Margaret Sau1sgVice-Pres., Nancy Allspawg Sec. Treas., Vivian Vickers? Reporter 8cHistorian, jon Law. Grant's Musical Department is newer than the school itself, but it has done more than its share of bringing recogni- tion to our school. It was organized to provide means for singing for those who are interested in singing and in get- ting a basic background for future musical interests. The Boy's Chorus is to prepare them for future functions next year. Some of the main activities participated in were the CHORAL FESTIVAL at Stillwater last fall, the U. S. Grant Christmas program, and an all-city choral gathering in February, besides count- less P.T.A. appearances. Barbershop quartets and girls quartets and trio's were another feature of the choral year. CHOIR OFFICERS, Left to Right: Harrison, Presidentg Wright, Vice Presidentg Duggan, Sg. at Arms. The purpose of the pep club is to promote school spirit, practice good sportsmanship, and encourage the entire student body and staff to participate in the activities. The main object of the pep club is to reflect, to the opposing schools, the interest of the students in supporting their teams. As our pep club is one of the largest in the city we have been asked many times to usher at the more important events being held at the Municipal Auditorium. We have also helped the Medical Research Foundation by taking up money at out games. One of our most important activities is the Sweetheart Dance, which is held once every year. It is formal, and takes place around Valentine's Day. The biggest responsibility that each member of the club has is to see that she is at every game our team plays. One of the clubs founded at that time was the Science Club under the sponsorship of Mr. jack Parker. The first year the club took field trips and entered the science fairs. At the end of the year, sad news was receivedg Mr. Parker could no longer be the sponsor. However, the loss of Mr. Parker did not end the Science Club because the following year Miss Carter became sponsor. The club again took field trips and entered the science fairs and Haworth, Anderson, Straka. First Row: Mrs. Carter, even invented a club nameg the Snooper Snoopers. This year the Science Club is again sponsored by Miss Carter, assisted by Mrs. Bryant. The club provides the means for students with an interest in science to meet every Friday morning at 8:00 A.M. and share their ideas with others. Fostering a mutual interest in science is the sole purpose of the club. Anyone interested in science who wants to meet with other students of similar inter- ests is welcome to join the club.
