Brigadier General BENJAMIN T. HARRIS Deputy Commanding General BRIGADIER GENERAL BENJAMIN T. HARRIS, born in Columbia, Missouri, 27 August 1909, was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant, Infantry upon graduation from the United States Military Academy. Prior to World War II, he served at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Williams, Maine and in the Canal Zone. During World War II, he served with the 81st Division as Regimental S-3, Battalion Commander and Regimental Executive Officer par- ticipating in three campaigns in the Pacific. After inactivation of the 81st Division in japan in January 1946, he joined the 97th Division. In February 1947, General Harris was assigned to the Plans and Policy Division of the War Department General Staff, Washington, D. C. and later served as a member of the Joint Strategic Plans Groups, Office of the joint Chiefs of Staff. After attending the Armed Forces Staff College, he served once again as a member of the Joint Staff. In 1953 he went to Korea Where he commanded the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division and later assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, XXIV Corps. In 1954, General Harris returned to the United States where he served on the Staff and Faculty of the Command and Gen- amt--,---fs we-w-, ,eww fc ' ite , aff .fi-,Q af-gi est, 3, ,tp y 4 af .Liz ft, . eral Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In September 1956, he was assigned to the United States Army Training Center, Engineer, Fort Leonard Wood, Mis- souri, as Deputy Commanding General. In April 1958, he became Chief, United States Army Military Advisory Mission, Ankara, Turkey. After returning to the United States in April 1960, he was assigned to the Army Element, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D. C. General Harris was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood in October 1962.
