The majority ofthe EOOW's and CS Console Watchstanders are senior GS 's. Oil Lab personnel, responsible for all bulk petroleum and boiler water quality, also belong to MP Division. he behind-the-scenes heroes of Auxialiary Division IA-Gangj may have the biggest moment to moment impact on the lives of their shipmates of any division aboard. Their four air conditioning plants make M ON- TEREY's interior livable, in addition to cooling vital combat systems electronics equipment and spaces. Meals come from food preserved by A-Gang's two refrigeration plants and are prepared with A-Gan g maintained galley fquipment. Auxiliary Division owns the two distilling Plants for fresh water at sea and maintains the hot water heaters for showers and laundry lalong with the laundry washers and dryers themselves J. Three low pressure air compressors provide ship 's service air while two high Pressure air compressors provide 3000 PSI air for a WMO' of uses from launching torpedoes to starting gas Ulrbines. If you eat it, drink it, wear it, or use pneumatic Pvwer to run it, A-Gang had a hand in providing it. The Damage Controlmen lDC'sJ proudly bear the title MON- TE RE Y fire Department, serving in key positions in damage control parties and providing expertise for train- ing their shipmates in battle damage response. In addi- tion, they maintain the gear in three repair lockers and fire suppression systems I installed C O2, halon gas, and AI-'FF hose reels 1 throughout the ship. The General Workshop is staffed with Hull Technicians lHT's1 who serve as the .ship 's welders and plumbers. They wage an unending battle against wear and tear, mending the thousands of pieces of metal which comprise the MON- TERE X The critical services these talented individuals provide are indespensible to the rnatenal readiness of MONTEREY and the morale of her crew. MON- TEREY's Machinery Repairrnan IMRQ also works in the General Workshop. An individual craftsman, the MR works with a lathe and other machine tools to create items from stock metal, an indispensable asset for a deployed unit. 57
