he MONTEREY anchored off Bizerte, Tunisia August 31 and September 1 before participating in a three day exercise with the Tunisian Navy Located on the northern tip of Tunisia, forty miles northwest of capitol Tunis and the ancient city of Carthage, Bizerte offered many small shops and side- walk vendors where crewmembers could bargain for camel leathergoods, perfumes, pottery and a bizarre assortment of second-hand goods.
