Boorda visited MONTEREY on 11 December 199311, Adriatic Sea while MONTEREY was operating in support of United Nations resolutions ana taking part in Operations Sharp Guard, Provide Promise, and Deny Flight. The visit was Honorabl- Dalton's first shipboard visit to a Naval ship underway since he took office in July 1993. K The crew put in long hours in preparation for the event and the distinguished visitors were treated ln a tour of the ship and a demonstration of her capabilities. ' In a surprise award ceremony, Secretary Dalton awarded ADICAWD Steven O'Neal with the Nan Commendation Medal. He also honored other members of MONTEREY,s crew by presiding ow, reenlistment and Warfare Qualification ceremonies. SHICSVVJ Robert Fortis and RM2 William White were reeniisted by Secretary Dalton and AD1 Steven O'Neal, ET2 Robert Cuddeback, and R511 Charles Wade were qualified as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialists. n the 31st of October, MONTEREY cel- 4,5 ebrated Halloween by holding a cos- tume contest and talent show. The win- ner ofthe costume and talent contest was FC3 Russell Bell fcostumel and SM3 Ed Hunt fTal- entl. F C3 Bell was very creative and dressed as a Trojan warrior. SM3 Hunt also let his cre- ativity go to work on a MONTEREY Hal- loween rap song. The following were participants of the cos- tume contest: BM2 Cox CMr. TJ, FC3 Bell Cfrojanj, AEAN Haffner CMONTEREY Babyj, AE2 Boudreaux QMONTEREY Mommaj, FC1 Griffeth flndianj, HN Llamas and HM3 Delos- santos KGTMO Boysj, and HT3 Hugill and HT3 Pearsall CChasersJ.
