Boorda visited MONTEREY on 11 December 199311, Adriatic Sea while MONTEREY was operating in support of United Nations resolutions ana taking part in Operations Sharp Guard, Provide Promise, and Deny Flight. The visit was Honorabl- Dalton's first shipboard visit to a Naval ship underway since he took office in July 1993. K The crew put in long hours in preparation for the event and the distinguished visitors were treated ln a tour of the ship and a demonstration of her capabilities. ' In a surprise award ceremony, Secretary Dalton awarded ADICAWD Steven O'Neal with the Nan Commendation Medal. He also honored other members of MONTEREY,s crew by presiding ow, reenlistment and Warfare Qualification ceremonies. SHICSVVJ Robert Fortis and RM2 William White were reeniisted by Secretary Dalton and AD1 Steven O'Neal, ET2 Robert Cuddeback, and R511 Charles Wade were qualified as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialists.
