REEVES ASSISTANT RESEARCH OPERATIONS OFFICER The Research Department is the largest on the ship and is assigned the responsibility for carrying out the basic mission of the GEORGETOWN, which is to conduct technical research operations in support of Navy electronic re- search projects, which includes electromagnetic propagation studies and advanced communications systems, such as lunar satellite communications. To accomplish this mission, the GEORGETOWN is configured with sixty various types of the most modern and complex transmitting and receiving antennae which connect to over seven million dollars worth of electronic equip- ment, including a variety of radion transmitters and receivers, electronic countermeasures equipment, recording devices (including a video tape recorder, the recording hear of which alone costs ten thousand dollars to replace), facsimile equipment for printing weather maps, and the most modern of electronic shops for the caring for of all this equipment.
