DEPE DE T D Y RUI E Separations from loved ones is something ENTERPRISE crew- man and their families deal with quite often. Being a part of a combat-ready aircraft carrier team requires it. But on August 17, the whole ENTERPRISE family got together for Dependent's Day cruise out into the blue waters of the San Francisco coast. Passing beneath the Golden Gate Bridge and getting that last glimpse of the San Francisco skyline, a sight very familiar to the crew, set the stage for a day full of entertainment, food, and just plain fun. The highlight of the day was an air power demonstration which enabled our guestls to see the flight deck operations up close as they were allowed to stand in a safe viewing area right on the flight deck. The jet engines' roaring sound went right through your body and then in about two blinks of an eye the aircraft was headed skyward. And to show you what this 90,000-ton ship can do, the ship was skillfully maneuvered through turns at various speeds and quick acceleration and deceleration runs. The entertainment on the hanger bay was non-stop as two differ- ent professional musical groups, a hypnotist, magician, banjo player, dance troop and the master of ceremonies kept the large crowds clapping, and at the edge of their seats. The USO and Oakland liavy League were responsible in large part for the well received s ow. 18fDEPENDENTS DA Y At last count, more than 5,000 dependents relatives made it aboard for the day-long cruise. It was nice to bring my family, aboard to see what it is I dof, said one crewman as he left with his son and daughters. And though family and friends may not be with us in person all the time theyrmost assuredly are always in our hearts and our minds. I I --ff' I ' 7
