B ILDI A N ER bic Bay Naval Base in Philip- pings, first line kin. iOn Sept. 12, 1972, ENTERPRISE depart- ed Alameda for her sixth combat deployment to Southeast Asia. it 7 The arrival of 1973 brought good news to ENTERPRISE and the world, the an- nouncement of a cease-fire in Vietnam. In March 1973, ENTERPRISE earned her sec- ond Battle Efficiency EH for attack carriers of the Pacific Fleet. The ship left Subic Bay may 30 to return to her home port of Alame- da. T 7 0n July 30, ENTERPRISE sailed from Alameda to Bremerton, WA, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, for a six-month ship- yard period of alterations and refitting in preparation for taking on the Navy's newest fighter aricraft, the F-14A Tomcat. Returning to Alameda in early February 1974, ENTERPRISE began refresher train- ing, carrier qualifications and air wing oper- ations in August. ENTERPRISE won her third Battle Efficiency EM for Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers. 8fHISTOR Y

Returning to Subic,.CTF-77 and Staff disembarked. After two days of storm evasion in the South China Sea, ENTER- PRISE commenced the return transit to CONUS on October 12. ENTERPRISE arrived at Pearl Harbor on October 22, where the ship embarked 200 Tigers,', participating sons of crew- members, for the transit to its homeporttat Alameda. I After a stand-down period, ENTERPRISE proceeded to the SOCAL operating area, where she conducted carrier qualifica- tions through December. On December 4, Air Wing Eleven was embarked and the ship sailed for a 10-day operation period. During this at-sea period, Air Wing Eleven conducted refresher air operations, cyclic operations and a successful Mine warfare certification. The Air Wing flew offp on December 15 andthe ship returned to Alameda for the holidays. it I N . I N a 17-year history that dependents of the crew were embarked for an excursion between Alameda and Bremerton. ' I I ' During this COH period, ENTERPRISE undertook the lar- gest habitability Self-Help Program ever attempted byua Navy ship and established a Habitability Division in the Ship's Force Management Overhaul System, comprised of approximately 300 men.
