The University Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Samuel Krachmalnick, offered campus performances of works for large orchestra. Winter Quarter the Symphony joined UCLA vocal students in presenting the world premiere of the opera The Ballad of the Sleazy Palace Cafe (music by UCLA faculty member Paul Reale). Orchestra personnel also assisted the Opera Workshop in their performances of Menotti ' s The Consul.

Men ' s Glee Club With a repertoire ranging from Palestrina and Schubert to Copland and Cole Porter, the UCLA Men ' s Glee Club kept its traditionally full schedule. The distinguished group performed at a number of schools, churches, and service organizations, touring Northern California and the San Diego and Arizona areas on two separate tours.
