California, have the power to make all decisions and policies for the statewide university, handle its finances, and plan for the future. The sixteen regents are appointed by the governor of the state for sixteen year terms. Remaining aloof from politics, they are usually civic and business leaders who receive a token stipend for their services. University Board of Regents Regents FORBES, HELLER, DAVIS, Lt. President Kerr President of the far-flung University of California, with its nine campuses and numerous projects and extensions spread throughout the state and around the world is one of America ' s most distinguished educators, Clark Kerr. President Kerr has been nationally recognized in academic circles as the originator and the foremost proponent of the multiversity concept. He has sought to maintain the integrity of the University of California while allowing each campus to develop its own individual personality and specialties. An alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, Kerr became the twelfth president of the university in 1958, succeeding Dr. Robert Gordon Sproul. Because of his background as a professor of industrial relations, the president has also served as arbitrator in a number of labor disputes. The multiversity is well administered. r GERALD H.
