BRIEF HISTORY OF TYNER HIGH SCHOOL The hustory of Tyner Hugh School came a a re ult of an Educatuon Bull of T906 whereby countue of Tenne see were guven permus uon to levy a tax for Hugh School purposes Tyner Hugh School wa the furt Hugh School deducated un Hamulton County The occa uon of the deducatuon wo one of three splendud county Hugh School buuldungs r- the county wa e e ues of ded at ry exerc es o be hed e second was the deducatuon of Central Hugh School Profe or P P Claxton of the Unuversuty of Tennessee deluvered the deducatory oratuoru of the Tyner Hugh School Buuldung The buuldung wa decorated un gay and patruotuc colors wuth buntung and Old Glory floatung un truumph all about The decoratuons were un charge of Professor A W Abel the Pruncupal and hus able corps of Assustants and the good women of the Communuty At the close of Professor Claxton s address dunner was spread un the old fashuoned ba ket dunner manner and the large gatherung enuoyed themselves ummen ely The Tyner Hugh School Buuldung was one of the handsomest of the county havung cost nearly Sl0000 Thus we fund the openung day of Tyner Hugh School bruefly revuewed un all uts glory R L Jones was Superuntendent of Hamulton County at that tme He was fol lowed by J B Brown Some of the early Communuty leaders who were unstrumental un ecurung a Hugh School at Tyner were W H Varnell W S Beck Dr T 'NI Eblen S A Morgan Securung the Hugh School for Tyner was a Communuty prouect of great umportaruce Tyner Hugh moved to uts pre ent cute on November T8 T907 and the deducatuon of the buuldung took place on November 26 T907 The enrollment of the Hugh School at the begunmng of the furst year September 9 T907 was 38 students but thus uncreased to 54 before the year closed The furst Pruncupal of Tyner Huah School was Professor J W Abel Mr Abel only erved one year but ut was through hus unfluence Tyner Hugh School became a four year Hugh School W W Malors succeeded Mr Abel and served T2 years It was under hus admunustratuon that the school gradually gauned un enrollment and unfluence and became furmly entrenched un the communuty lufe J D Bales followed Mr Mauors and served for one year He was followed by C C Burgner who has served ever sunce Many umportant umprovements have taken place durung hus prun cupalshup When the school opened un T907 there was only one teacher un addutuon to the pruncupal Today there are 45 When the Home Economtcs subuect was added un T908 T909 ut was the furst tume that Home Economucs was ever taught un a Hamulton County school The furst school paper gotten out by Tyner Hugh Shcool was called The Comet h T e school paper us known today as The Torcl' and has functuoned successfully sunce uts furst organuzatuon Mr J R Smuth was the furst P T A Presudent havung taken offuce un T922 when the Cuvuc Club became known as the P T A Mrs Drehmer us the P T A Presudent for T941 42 Prof present day Tyner Hugh School Lubrary essor W W Mauors whule servung as pruncupal began the nucleus of the The furst graduatung class of Tyner Hugh School took place un T9TO and con susted of four members About 20 per cent of the total students graduatung from Tyner Hugh School have entered College and Busuness College therefore we easuly see how Tyner Hu h Scho l g o has made a notable contrubutuon ta the Communuty un rausung the Educatuonal standards of the Communut d t k y an un a ung the leader hup un the Communuty udeals and attutudes ' ' s s ' ' , t S S . .
