Successful in their professions and busi- nesses, they pool their deci- sions for the welfare of the campus and community. 6 Board of Trustees Dr. Eugene M. Allen Dentist A. D. Clark Attorney Ira Hildebrand Cattleman, Investments Hubert Tunnell Merchant Dr. .lim M. Vaughn Physician B. D. White Banker A Building No. 26 The Aleck Genecov Science and Art Buildingeto be completed in the school year of ,74-is part of the physical evidence of the steady growth of TJC. lts 26 buildings have a spread of 76 acres on two campuses. Since its founding in 1926, the college has not missed a year in its 5 to 15 per cent increase in enrollment. "Steady progressive change" probably best describes this community college serving persons of all ages and at various educational levels. But the bulk of the more than 6,000 students are on their way toward academic degrees. A fast growing number want one or two-year professional training in a variety of technical fields. These technical fields include business training of various kinds, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Drafting, Electronics, Electronic Data Processing fcomputerj, law Enforcement Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Records Technology, Mid-Management, Licensed Vocational Nursing, Petroleum Technology, Radiologic Teclmology, Respiratory Therapy Technology, Surveying, Technical Illustration, Air Conditioning Refrigeration, Sports Facility Technology. The 12-month evening college curriculum includes academic and technical programs plus specialized non-credit courses. Public request for courses like Driver Training or Income 'Tax Reporting would bring these short courses into the day or evening program. Basic courses for all academic degrees are in both day and evening schedules. TJC offers 540 academic courses and between 450-500 technical courses. Said another way, this is almost 1,000 courses from which a student can choose. Since he can take only five courses per semester, he could be around for as long as he wishes. And the fees for a year of study at TJ C are less expensive than any college in East Texas. Total cost at TJC for two semesters-tuition and lab fees-is 3124. This is S64 less than the least expensive junior colleges and S130 less than the most expensive. More than 30 student-run Student Senate approved organizations are outlets from time away from study. The continual broadening of sports, the Apache Belles, Apache Band and TJC Publications are other diversifications. TJ C's purpose is to develop each individual. And it's a college by day and night, 12 months of each year. 8 -1 . 5. 1 :' 1-. 4 'F.,,,. iffy ff f 5 1:1 'fm Gym, 'inn 1115" , rf Zigi. '33 ,g.,"1 'sf' '. I,"'fb:f' - r 1'a 'E?C:l-cf, 35.-. R 9 FLOYD WAGSTAFF Floyd Wagstaft's story is one of success. His first claim to fame was as head football coach between 1947 and 1963 in which his teams won 130 and lost 36 games including Junior Rose Bowl win in 1948. As a football coach, Wagstaff coached all three of the co11ege's present coaches. Wagstaffts greatest fame, however, has come as the Apachels basketball coach. The "dean ofjunior college basketball" prior to 1973-74 has won over 700 games, and have also gone to the na- tional championship in Hutchinson, Kansas, 11 times, a single coachis record. Wagstaff doubles as the college's Athletic director and this year became dean of health, athletics and physical education. BILLY WAYNE ANDREWS Since becoming Apache head football coach in 1969, Billy Wayne Andrews has compiled a 39-13-1 win-loss record. Andrews, a former Apache football player, was nominated Texas Sports Writer's Junior College Coach of the Year his first year and was runner-up for the award in 1971. Behind Andrews, the Tribe has notched two conference titlesg 1969, with a 9-1 record, and 1971, with a 9-2 season. Andrews, although hampered by injuries, was an outstanding running back while playing for the Apachies in the '50s under Floyd Wagstaff, now athletic director. Andrews was voted Junior College All-American, All- Conference and All-Texas Junior College player before his gradu- ation in 1953. Apache Head Coacheag - it as gy .ff ? N yy 85 Basketball Coaching Staff , HEAD COACH FLOYD WAGSTAFF The Dean of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach Floyd Wagstaff is one of the top junior college coaches in America. He has never known a losing season in his 27 years at TJC. He has been named Coach of the Year by the Texas Sports Writers Association five times. The 10 coaches of the Texas Eastern Conference have named him Coach of the Year the past three sea- sons. National Junior College Athletic Association officials have pre- sented him with a Certificate of Service recognizing him as an out- standing national coach. Many fine athletes come to TJC just to play for Wagstaff. They find his personality and winning reputation more attractive than the glamour of a major university. TJC-exe Steve Foster from Atlanta chose TJC over the University of Houston because Houston officials "told me to come to TJC first because it is the best Texas junior college to play in." He was also told that "Coach Wagstaff is the best coach in junior college basketball." In this, the first year as dean of physical education, he has shown he is a winner in academic circles also. ASSISTANT COACH RANDALL MILLSTEAD Randall Millstead played his basketball at Stephen F. Austin University. When Floyd Wagstaff hired him as assistant basketball coach at TJC, he was the principal at Bullard High School. Millstead, the only coach at TJC who did not play under Wagstaff, has lived up to Wagstaff's expectations. "He tMillsteadl is one of the better men in the business," says Wagstaff. "He knows what to do, he does everything plus. He is nice enough to get along with his players, mean enough to coach, demand and get respect from his boys." ipaches in ction E- f r Lctil, Rolwrl Uwcns, 34, sliows his Iorin .iminsl Angclinzi Vounly Vollcgc.
