To rally the Apache Spirit a gigantic bonfire was built on a vacant lot near the campus under the supervision of Kappa Sigma Lambda Fraternity. Saturday afternoon the parking lot behind Wise Auditorium . X was bustling with activity as students hurriedly decorated cars for the parade. The parade including the Apache Band and Belles. administration. and a beauty representative of each or- ganization progressed to the Court House Square. During the pep rally on the square the beauties and the Homecoming Queen nominees were introduced. During half-time of the homecoming game the Queen was announced and presented red roses. The arrival of the new semester brings open rush and new pledges are accepted into the fraternity. In lVlarch Kappa Sigma Lambda is the sole sponsor of 'GWestern Week." This includes a Beard grow- ing contest, fast draw contest and is highlighted by a dance at the end of the week in the Teepee. During the week students must wear at least three articles of western cloth- ing or pay the consequences-being thrown in jail and paying a ten cent fine to gain their freedom. Kappa Sigma Lambda makes up part of the college life for many male students and contributes to many worthwhile projects for im- proving the image of Tyler Junior College.
