We of the BRUIN staff have tried to present a theme we think is importantin everyone's life, communication. lt is something we have found indispensable in working together on this book. We hope, as you look through the pages of your BRUIN '69 and remember old friends and good times, that you will also remem- ber the communication vve have among students, faculty and administration. We hope you will see the value of good communication in everything you do. lab! CO' JP! Being one who cherished life, she enriched the lives she touched. This was her twenty-seventh year in Twin Falls school system and her thirty- fourth year of working with young people as a teacher and counselor. Be- fore coming to O'Leary Junior High School in 1942, lVlrs. Powers had taught at Bienville High School in Louisiana and at Buhl. In 1963 she began her work as a counselor and Girls' League sponsor here in Twin Falls Senior High School. Her education included a B.A. degree from Louisiana Polytechnic and an lVl.A. from the University of Idaho. As an expression of our love and gratitude for moments shared, we dedicate this 1969 BRUIN to Anne Powers, an understanding counselor and a true friend. acfm1h1's' 1'-1 culion I . As I recall correctly I see nothing sycclmnqs fuclsznf The Twin Falls, Idaho Chapter of the American Field Service is proud to have brought International Scholarship Student, Irene Chitty, from Caracas, Venezuela, South America, to Twin Falls High School for the 1968-1969 school year. This student, financed by the Twin Falls High School Student Body, has contributed immeasurably to friendship and understanding between stu- dents of our country and those of her native South America. Bon Voyage, Irene! We're going to miss you. TO THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY OF T. F. H. S. When I arrived in Twin Falls, I could not imagine all the interesting and wonderful experiences that were ahead of me. Now the school year is over and it is time for me to return to my country. I have learned about things that can never be found in a book, feelings that can only be understood by living people. I do hope I helped you to under- stand my country a little bit too. I wish I could express how grateful I am to each one of you, for you made my year full of happiness. I will leave in Twin Falls my second home. Our club's dedication to service and inter- national understanding has been dominant this school year. We have corresponded with soldiers in Vietnam and Interact Clubs in Hong Kong, South America and the United States. Service projects for this year have included a Red Cross Christmas project for soldiers in Vietnam, adding SIC banners to the collection in the gym, painting the Bruin on the gym floor, selling pro- grams and concessions at the games, donating money for the sound system in the gym, decorating the halls for Spirit Day, maintaining the student activity sign, moving the Bruin to the games, ushering at the Twin Falls County Rodeo, serving as Santa's helpers in the Christmas parade, and helping businessmen on Busi- ness Education day. Future plans include the pur- chasing of rubber mats for the gym floor, landscaping the stadium, and adding personal foul boards to the gym. When they come across a bedraggled, homeless girl who is in a state of shock and bears some plausible resemblance to the Grand Duchess Anastasia, supposedly shot by the firing squad that exterminated all the royal family eight years previously, they rig her up as a claimant to the imperial millions. As they tutor her in the family background she is supposed to be familiar with, they begin to realize that the waif they are rehearsing might really be Anastasia. Based upon facts, the play builds to a climax which leaves this very real riddle unsolved. Anna: So it wasn't enough to have suffered all that. It was also necessary that I should meet you again, like this. Anna: I told you things that didn't happen because! Chernor: lf we could present her to them lying in her dared not remember what did. VARSITY This year was one of frustration for the Bruins. Under a new coaching staff headed by Norm Thomas, the team had some fine moments by defeating powerful lVlinico and Idaho Falls clubs, but a plague of mental errors in most games kept them from their potential. The Bruins, who tallied a 3-6-1 record, three times fell short of defeating teams which they soundly whipped in the statistics. Senior Frank Durham, listed for the second time of the All- SIC FOSIGF, was an unanimous choice by the sports writers at center. Kelly Oualls, also among the best running backs in the con- ference, was chosen at a Iinebacking post on the All-SIC team. SOPHOIVIOR ES Under the direction of Al Busby and Duane Stands, the little Bruins were led to a 6-2-1 record. After tieing Castleford J.V.s in their initial bout, the sophomores counted three shut- outs among their six wins and never lost by more than six points. Coach Jerry Kleinkopf's distance men com- piled a record of seven firsts and two seconds in their nine meets. Nampa was the only team to defeat the Bruins, but the Twin Falls' runners repaid the debt by downing the Bulldogs twice. But one of Nampa's wins came at a better time as the Bulldogs bested Twin Falls in the State meet after the Bruins had easily taken District. The Bruins were led by All-SIC forward John Bradley and honorable men- tion SIC Mark Miller. They were backed up consistently by seniors: Mike Durland, Gary Van Engelen, Mike Newell and junior Allan Howa, who all shared as high scorers throughout the season. Coach Farmer, who again this year did a remarkable job with the boys, was voted, as last year, runner-up in "Coach of the Year" award behind Ron Kress of Highland. As a team, the Bruins were leading scorers in the SIC and also had the highest free throw percentage in the conference. SOPHOMORES Under the coaching of Ron Watson, the sophomore Bruins came up with another successful season. With constant teamwork and outstanding indi- vidual playing by such individuals as Mike Crandall, Roger Campbell, John Van Engelen and Walt Sinclair, they finished the season with a 14-6 record. After the regulation season of seven games, the champions of the American league were the Beavers, with a perfect 8-0 record. ln the National league, three teams tied for the championship with identical 6-l records. The three were: the Board Bangers, the Full Court Plez, and the Home- makers. After the end of the season an interleague tournament was played to determine the overall champions. The teams were placed in upper and lower brackets. The upper bracket was composed of the eight teams with best records and the lower bracket was composed of the eight teams with the poorer records. There was a consolation bracket in both the upper and lower brackets for teams that lost their first games. The Full Court Plez halted the Homemakers 45-39 to claim the overall intramural championship. Harold Brown and Dennis Almquist sponsored the league and helped keep the schedule running smoothly.
