Every high school boy and girl looks forward to the time of employment. Whether it be part time, summer job, or permanent employment leading to a life's work, references are required. The more impor- tant the job the more your references and records are scrutinized. Even in these days of the mad search for talented people, much time is spent on the character references as well as the academic qualifications. Some concerns and most governmental agencies even look into the character qualifications of the people who recommend you. Even though you may have graduated from college or have had successful experiences in one position, when you change to a new job, the title search starts all over again and invariably goes back to your high school days. These are the days when basic character traits are started. Later those traits become the firm principles which will guide you always. Before recorded history we have evidence that men wanted to be remembered. The pyramids, the tombs, and monuments attest to that fact. As a girl you certainly would like to be remembered for your lady-like qualities, your consideration for others, your genuine courtesy, a good scholarship, and your Christian character. As a boy you certainly would like to be remember- ed as one who did everything as well as he could; as one who had good health habits, good manners, and careful grooming; and as one who seemed to know the value of an education. Your classmates and faculty members of high school days will keep a permanent record of your standing in scholarship and sense of fair play. E. Wilson Gates Principal Mankind cannot stand still. Either he progresses or retrogresses. This has been true always. The moment an individual ceases moving forward, his decline be- gins. Students of the Tussey Mountain High School stop at different intervals during your life. Take stock of yourself; take stock of your country. Your training in school as well as your training in life will enable you to discern stagnation or its approach. Early recognition of this and immediate positive action will prevent personal decay and national de- cline. Communism, the great enemy of our time, will be thwarted. Harry H. Alcorn Supervising Principal 9
