Mo TGCJMERY CAPTAI Captain David J. Montgomery is a native of Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1964 with a B.A. in mathematics, following which he was commissioned an Ensign through the Reserve Officer Candidate QROCJ program. As a junior officer he served onboard the USS JOSEPHUS DANIELS ICG-271, U55 WITEK QDD-8485, USS PARSONS QDDG-335, and USS AGERHOLM IDD-826j, During the period 1971-1972, he was assigned as an advisor to the Vietnamese Navy's Fleet Command. This was followed by a tour as an exchange officer with the Canadian Navy's Pacific Headquarters, where he was assignedduties as Operations Readiness Officer. Following graduation from the Naval War College Command and Staff course 1975, Captain Montgomery served on the staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group FIVEXCTF-75, and then as Executive Officer of the USS BROOKE QFFG-11. In 1979 he was ordered to the staff of Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe aS Surface Operations Officer, Captain Montgomery reported to the USS TUSCALOOSA from duty as Commanding Officer, USS POINT DEFIANCE QLSD-31J. He graduated from California Poly- technic College Pomona, California in 1969 with a B.S. in Social Science at which time he entered active duty as a Hospital Corpsman. He was accepted into the Officer Candidate Program and received his commission as an Ensign in 1971 through the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. As a junior officer he served with Tactical Air Control Squadron THIRTEEN and Tactical Air Control Squadron ONE deployed on USS NEW ORLEANS QLPH-11Q, served onboard USS HOLLISTER QDD-7882 as Oper- ations Officer, and USS POINT DEFIANCE 'QLSD-31D as Engineer Officer. From 1978 to 1981 he served with Naval Beach Group ONE as an instructor with the Amphibious Refresher Training staff, followed by a tour onboard USS BELLEAU WOOD QLHA-3, as the Assistant Chief Engineer. Commander Silvers reported to USS TUSCALOOSA as Executive Officer in July 1984. TUSCA- LOOSA's Radiomen won COMPHIBRON ONE Radio Shack of the Quarter, the Signalmen won runner up Signal Bridge of the Quarter, and the Operations Specialists had a member of their gang, OS1 McClain, win COMPHIBRON ONE Sailor of the Quarter. 28 x bf f ffgi, if Z Z 5 X!
