French - The Language Employed by Diplomats French is known as the clearest and most precise of modern languages. One must have a knowledge ot this language if planning to enter any phase of the diplo- matic service. Widely travelled Mrs. Terry emphasizes the importance of French as a language to promote international amity. DANIELLE SANCHEZ is the French orphan who has been adopted by the French Club, which contributes monthly to her support. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE working in cramped quarters with only limited facilities, the students in Mrs. Terry's French II class display apparent interest in learning about every aspect of the life of the French people. r ??i?' l

Latin students at T.H.S. obtain more than a knowledge of grammar and the Gallic Wars. They dabble in phil- osophy la la Finesi, archaeology, and the fine arts. Mythology and Winnie llle Pu also add to students' repertoires. Some students scorn Latin as a dead langu- age, but many colleges prefer it to modern languages. Spanish Students Benefit from Language Lab MRS. MARGARITA DEL VALLE, Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, B.S., University ot Alabama, M.A., Spanish, Sponsor of Spanish II and III Club-MRS. MARTHA LACKEY, University ot Alabama, B.S., MA., Spanish, English, Sponsor of Spanish I Club. Spanish, the language of our southern neighbors is one of the modern languages taught at T.H.S. For the first time, a third year ot Spanish has been offered to foreign language students. Because of an increased enrollment this year, Mrs. Lackey has taken over all Spanish I classes with Mrs. del Valle teaching Spanish II and III. Spanish students enioy using the new language labora- tory, which helps them in pronunciation and conversation. It is an aid to the teacher in knowing the individual stu- dent's problems. In Spanish Ill, there is the opportunity to study the his- tory, culture, and literature ot Spanish-speaking countries. LANGUAGE LAB CLASSES at T.H.S. help modern foreign language students learn how to speak the language they study, in addition to being able to read the language.
