JOE HADLEY-Practical, intelligent, musical, zealous . . . Joe is a spec- ial tavorite of the whole school. Perhaps we are partial to Joe be- cause he worked so hard on the 1952 sports section of the BLACK CURTIS GREEN-lt would be hard to count her honors: Homecoming Queen, Most Beautiful Girl in her freshman, sophomore classes, Hon- or Society, Beta Club, Secretary of Student Council. GLORIA NARRAMORE-For four years Gloria and piano playing have been synonomous. What can we say of one who has given so much time, so much work, with so much graciousness, to so many of our undertakings? Members of her senior section and all of us who have heard one of her devotionals with their simplicity, originality, sin- cerity, won't forget them easily. WARRIOR. Just so go our festive days . . . here, gone . . . happy, gay times . . . featured here in the BLACK WARRIOR. g -L i u'-Os' .I .,3..r3,, Nota Red Letter Day but a Red Letter Night. The days, nights, weeks of rehearsal turned out a smooth, beautiful concert. There were solos and quartets and group singing. Miss Holroyd directed, and Gloria played the piano. ij Mid-term exam week approached . . . moans, groans, direful predic- tions, last minute cram- ming. Dolefully we went to classes, armed with bluebooks, pens, and a last bite of Beta Club candy or apple. We secretly enjoyed the holiday atmosphere caused by the va- riation in our normal routine. Stock full of Thanksgiving were the baskets that 'the Hi-Y boys gave to the poor. RED LETTER Beta Club tapping today! Excitement mounts as the program proceeds . . . speeches telling of the requirements, the emblem, the things for which the club stands. Then the old members go out in the audience and tap the new ones. Career Day . . . the big question, "What am l going to do in years to come?" Qualified citizens come to help us decide. Too bad, it comes too late in the year to get pictures. Our Editor and Asst. Editor are told that fact. A I . The football banquet where some get their first letters seniors get their last is the only real Red Letter Day All sorts of things went on here as you can tell by looking at these pictures! CLEMENTINE- Love made a madcap high school girl change into a demure and even coquettish young lady. lf you weren't there you should have been to see Carolyn Lawley as Clementine, and Armstead Jenkins as Hank. E TERTAI ER and "Twelve Hits and a Miss!" We boost about the Confederates, an ag- gregation of T. H. S. musicians who ploy for our dances with true Dixie fervor. WINNER W4 Mn 'S THE CHEERLEADERS - They didn't complain early in the season when they had to wear heavy, wool sweaters on hot, hot days, they didn't complain when it was icy cold and they had only those sweaters to keep them warm, they only complained when the students didn't yell loud enough! A REVIEW IIE BEARS CRUSH BRIDGEPORT 48-0 IN OPENER The Black Bears started the season with a bang. Just about everybody took a hand in the defeat, with Ingram, Brown, and Ashcraft hitting pay dirt twice respectively. Also scoring were Brasher and Woodward. Playing outstanding ball in the line were Anderson, Burchfield, and Helms. LANIER DOWNS BEARS 2'l-6 After q scoreless first quarter, the Poets proved to be too strong for the inexperienced but fighting Black Bears. The outstanding backs for "Loose" were Woodward, with his long punts, "Fleet Fred" Brown, and Vaughn, who threw a touchdown pass. Capt. Anderson turned in some brilliant line play. WOODLAWN BEATS TUSCALOOSA 'I9-6 The T. H. S. line, led by Anderson, Burchfield, and Brooks, played aggressive football during the first half, but a fine Colonel ball club, being on their home field, found its holes during the first half. End Carl Kennedy scored the Bears' only T. D. on a I4 yard end around. T. H. S. FALLS BEFORE GADSDEN 0-20 Once again the Bears played brilliant ball dur- ing the first half, but faltered in the second. The only bright spot in the Bears' play was Capt. An- derson and his defensive play. Ah, yes, a dismal night in Gadsden for our boys. PARRISH DROPS BEARS I3-'I2 Our boys almost had their second win but let it get away. Kennedy hit pay dirt on an end around, and Ingram, Woodward, and Brown ran well. Woodward's punts set the opposition back many times. Charles Helms, Anderson, and Burchfield were stalwarts ,in the line. Ingram bowls 'em overl TIIE EA Il TUSCALOOSA EDGES YELLOWJACKETS 'I3-7 The Bears ended a 4-game losing streak when Fred Brown stale over center with the winning T. D. late in the 4th quarter. Stopping up the middle on defensive were Helms, Anderson, Brooks, and Burchfield. Woodward got the other 6 points, with Hannah converting, LATE SURGE FREEZES IRONMEN 'I9-6 Led by Woodward, who scored all three touch- downs, the Bears pulled this one out of the fire with magnificent playing in the last half. The Bear line played outstanding ball, with Helms and Mathis standing out.THannah kicked the P. A. T. The game was played in near-freezing weather. LOOSA MOPS UP DESHLER 33-I3 Woodward and Ingram scored twice each, with Brown scoring once. Helms played his best game to date, standing out on defense. Anderson play- ed well on the offensive. Hannah converted twice. It was ci happy homecoming at T. H. S. BRUINS SWAMP BAY HIGH 34-20 The Black Bears turned loose their long-range guns to snow under the snappy but outclassed Floridians on their home-soil in Panama City. Co- Captain Burchfield was the outstanding lineman for the visitors, and Brown and Ingram shone in the backfield. Ingram scored twice and Brown three times. Hannah added 4 conversions. WILDCATS TRIM BEARS 6-0 After three scoreless quarters, County High squeezed over a score and an upset victory over our bays in their final game after four straight victories.
