I In Memoriam Alan Michael Lankowski He was our friend, a part of us, with the wish to help others — To get along some way or other — Just a kind extended hand, out to help whomever he could — Though he is not on this earth, his memory will remain with warmest thoughts in the hearts of the class of 1973. 49 Class History Gathering all our courage on a crisp fall morning in ' 69, we entered Turners Falls High School full of excitement and anticipation. We were Freshmen! Eager to fit in and make new friends we climbed the worn steps to our home rooms on the third floor, never realizing how important those few steps would be. For now we started the first of four years which brought success, hardship, joy, and tears to each and everyone of us. Remember our first rally when we heard the first words uttered by the upperclassmen, " Freshmen, up in the balcony! " ? How about slaving for weeks on our " football " only to have it fall apart on Booster Day? Remember the Freshmen Welcome with everyone dressed in dungarees and we were in party dresses, suits and ties? Put- ting our disappointments and hardships behind we looked forward to becoming upperclassmen — Sophomores! The highlight of this year was getting our class rings! Remember calling Stanley ' s Jewelers everyday for two months to see if they were in? Remember our sailboat with the slogan " Sailing to Victory " which was so small that you needed a magnifying glass to see it? Could anyone for- get our snow sculpture shaped in a peace sign and having it lose one finger? How about our Sophomore car wash next to St. Kaz? Maybe we didn ' t make too much money but we sure had a lot of fun. Our Sophomore year passed quickly and now we gained our responsibilities as Juniors. This was the year we put it all together. Our football team was undefeated and our basketball team went on to become Western Massachusetts Champions. Even our baseball team made it to the Western Mass, finals. Breaking with tradition we had our very successful Junior Prom with the theme " Precious and Few " at the Sweetheart Tearoom in Shelburne Falls. Our float " Slaughter ' Em " went on to win first prize on Booster Day and we proved, as a class, we were ready to accept the leadership soon to be given to us by the graduating Seniors. With a lot of happy memories and a few tears we said " goodbye " to the Class of ' 72 and stepped into our long awaited role of SENIORS! As Seniors we worked together realizing we only had one year left to accomplish all the goals we had set during our first three years. A better " Teen Scene " , " Netop " , and " Yearbook " were just a few of our accomplishments. Our float " Rough ' Em Up " was the best of our four years and again we won first prize. Remember welcoming the Freshmen with a toilet paper roll contest and a pass-the-life-saver game? How about losing the Thanksgiving game 18-6 point wise only, and the parties that followed? As the months flew by many of us began making decisions con- cerning our futures. Soon we would leave the hallowed halls of Turners Falls High as the last graduating class. We leave with memories and friends behind but never forgotten. Au Revoir, Turners Falls High School. We will keep you in our hearts forever.
