lasm, vigor and spirit symbolize the students of Turner County High. The beginning of school created a warm, friendly atmosphere for TCHS students. Eager to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, the students were ablaze for a new experience. This ex- citement never died. Only the young have so great a passion for life. Their faces mirror the hopes and anxieties of the world which they are destined to in- herit. 'Ilic life of a student is well-rounded. Boby and mind must be developed. This development comes through channels of experience as diverse as the students themselves. Such a program is made possible by organization and planning. MP1 On the field, in the halls and in the classroom, the voice of youth, is heard. Tins is the voice of action and involvement. Students are people concerned with yesterday, today and tomorrow. Yesterday must be fully understood, today must be lived to the fullest, and tomorrow must be conquered. 6 School is ;i routine, and rou- tines are supposed to be dull. Why then do we see so much ex- pression on the faces of TCI IS people? These expressions, ran- ging from contemplation to sheer delight, show an overwhelming curiosity about ami interest in life. To such eager, enthusiastic people, dullness can not exist. 8 i Skills arc developed, pro- blems are solved and knowledge is generally increased. Most important is the pleasant atmo- sphere which is conducive to learning. This is where it's at! 10 Studying, testing and receiving grades cause mixed emotions. Generally, if the work has been diligent, the fruits are sweet. These ordeals are a vital part of the total program. 11 12 Opening Section........................................................1 Dedication............................................................14 Organizations.........................................................15 People................................................................41 Sports...............................................................125 Honors and Awards....................................................158 Epilogue................................................................ Chapel and fireside, country road and bay, Have something of their friendliness resigned; Another, if I would, I could not find, And I am grown much older in a day. But yet I treasure in my memory Your gift of charity, and young heart's ease, And the dear honour of your amity; For these once mine, my life is rich with these. And I scarce know which part may greater be, — What I keep of you, or you take from me. They flitted away on the wings of autumn's last crisp breeze and scurried into hiding with the cold breath of winter. But we remember. 1972 was a year of great promise for Rebel football. Returning 14 senior lettermen from the previous 9-1-1 team, the Rebels were aiming high. The Rebels lived up to all expectations. Marching through a 10-0 regular season, the Reb won the sub-region crown in Irwin Co. with a 20-15 win. These 10 wins extented our regular season win- ning streak to 23 games. Trouncing Cochran 42-0 for the Region crown and blasting Vidalia 21-0 to win South Georgia Championship in Carrollton, The power- ful Trojans won their third State crown in a heart-break- ing 31-21 victory over the Rebels. Though beaten in points, the Rebels were never beaten in spirit, and each player can hold his head high, proud to be a Rebel! 126 SOUTH GEORGIA CHAMPS 127 LEFT TO RIGHT: Coach Joe Wilson, Coach James Williford, Coach Wayne Baxter, Coach John Dye l rt ' 128 SENIORS 1971-’72 W. T.C.H.S. BAND 3 To a high school, a band is a meaningful and worth while addition. Through many long and hard practice hours, the band put on fine halftime shows during foot- ball season. Their presence enlivened our already spir- ited pep rallies and helped push the football team on to victory. Not always given credit due them, the 1972 T. C. H. S. band strove for excellence and became a credit to the Rebel tradition. 135 HOMECOMING 1971-1972 Homecoming Queen: 1971-1972 Susan Wheeler 136 HOMECOMING COURT LEFT TO RIGHT: Senior Representatives: Paula Gravitt and Mara Moree LEFT TO RIGHT: Sophomore Representative: Pat Hanner. EPILOGUE Another year in the history of Turner County High School has gone. This was a year that everyone well remembers. Ex- traordinary athletic endeavor marked the school year as the Rebels put forth a win- ning effort in every game in which they participated. They always had a faithful throng of supportors whether they were at home or on the road. The unity exhibited by the people of JCHS has rarely been found in any modern high school. A spirit of concern and co- operation has been much in evidence in the daily school routine. Time moves on. The seniors look back to memories and forward to a world of great challenge, but the juniors and soph- omores look to next year at TCHS. 171 173 174 All to myself I think of you, Think of the things we used to do, Think of the things we used to say, Think of each happy bygone day. Sometimes I sigh, and sometimes I smile. But I keep each olden, golden while All to myself. W.
