TURNER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL Ashbum, Georgia Volume III Editor - - - - MARTHA RAE PEACOCK Business Manager - BARBARA McDANIEL Copy Editor....................FAYE WYNN foreword This yearbook has been published with the desire of presenting to the stu- dents, alumni, faculty, and other friends of Turner County High School a faith- ful, accurate, and permanent picture of school life and activities during the 1959-60 school session. The Editors have attempted to cany out, throughout the book, a theme sug- gested by the title, THE REBEL-----that of the OLD SOUTH. The symbol on the cover and the scenes on the end pages suggest this gracious era. Antebellum- style homes of our community provide the background for many of the pictures, and our own lovely girls and young men represent the Southern Belles and Gen- tlemen of these by-gone days. As you leaf through these pages, may something of the charm and gracious- ness which is our rich heritage from the past be recaptured, and may this ac- count of the year’s activities in pictures mingled with nostalgia for the Old South make TWOFOLD your enjoyment of this 1960 edition of THE REBEL. Dedication WILLIAM G. HARDIN It has been said that not armies, not nations, have advanced the race; but here and there, in the course of ages, an individual has stood up and cast his shadow over the world. Perhaps William G. Hardin has not yet cast his shadow over the world, but he has cast his shadow over Turner County for the past nine years. And in that shadow, we have seen the image of a man who has won our respect, our ad- miration, and our affection. He has served well his fellow citizens and teachers and, most of all, us, the students of Turner County High School. In appreciation of his thoroughness in performance of duty, his modesty and quiet dignity, and his fine sense of sportsmanship and fair play, we, the Senior Class, proudly dedicate to Coach Bill Hardin this, the 1960 REBEL.
