For the first time in four years, there will be a normal, peacetime grad¬ uation in June. However, the graduates will be anything but normal, peacetime students. That this is the largest graduating class in the history of Tufts College is no accident, of course, but it may be suprising to learn that over 550 people are receiving degrees this June. But be¬ sides being the biggest class, this group claims an additional distinction —there are representatives of every class from 1941 to 1948, since those whose education was interrupted or accelerated have retained their original class designations. Naturally, with such a large, diverse group, there was bound to be a certain amount of disunity, due partly perhaps to the great number of relative strangers suddenly thrust together and called the Senior Class, but probably even more to a war-developed indifference to college ac¬ tivities. We certainly hope that, whatever the cause, this coolness will disappear before it can have a serious effect on future Tuftsmen. We be¬ lieve that most people must do more than merely attend classes to reap the full benefits of a college education, for participation in all forms of activity, whether academic or athletic, is essential not only in develop¬ ing the true character and spirit of a collegian, but also in preparing him for the rougher days after graduation. Due to extenuating circumstances, this may not have been too applic¬ able to some seniors, but nevertheless the long-run implications still hold. We want to see the future generations at Tufts bound together into solid, harmonious groups, which will always be capable of intelligent cooperation, and most important, which will always be activated by a true loyalty to their college and its people. Now is the time to lay the foundations for these generations.
