Tacos, Tutoring ccupied Lan uage Students Indigestion seemed to be a major problem for students enrolled in one of the five for- eign language courses available this year. Most language classes dined out at least once in a restaurant of their cultural studies. Span- ish students sampled tacos at Casa Molina, Chinese pupils contemplated the truthfulness of fortune cookies at the Four Seasons and French students bravely tasted snails in the Parisian atmosphere of the Bistro. i Studywise, students disclosed their ver- satility through different channels. Third year German student David Beatty won first prize in the regional National German Contest, open for high school students. Cicero and Virgil frustrated third and fourth year Latin stu- dents, respectively. Political Elections Captured lnterest C Civics Classes Making social studies more relevant to life today was a challenge facing the teachers. As Mr. ,loc Steiner said, '6Each teacher is an individualf' Instructors made use of various teaching methods through panel discussions, speakers and audio-Visual aids. One geography class concentrated on the study of maps. A fifth period course in Latin American History provided students an oppor- tunity to learn more about the colonization of South America. Seniors in American Prob- lems discussed such current problems as racism, poverty and the Arab-Israeli dispute. Many American History classes became involved in studying political campaigns. Stu- dents gave speeches supporting their favorite presidential candidate. A new Xerox machine aided teachers in reproducing materials. While browsing through a display book, a world geography student discovered many interesting things about Spain.
