Too often we tend to spend so much of our lives “in between time”, a foot in the past, a glance to the future. Others will say, sometimes cynically, that there are really only two good places - where we’ve been and where we’re going. I would like to think that somehow your time at Tucker County High School provided a striking four-year moment where, in a sense, time stood still, clocks froze, past and future blended somehow, but only to heighten the bittersweet things one lives through at that time, in that place. If any of us have touched each other, even slightly, then all our lives have been enriched by having known one another. As you leave Tucker County High School, try to remember the feeling of friendship that you have developed and in the muddle of Here and Now, don’t you think that we might see each other once or twice? FAREWELL FOUR YEARS IS A LONG TIME - TOO LONG TO FORGET WE LOOK AROUND AND ASK - WHERE DID IT GO? WE WORKED, WE PLAYED - BUT FOR FOUR YEARS? THEN WE LOOK THE OTHER WAY - INTO TOMORROW. SUDDENLY WE’RE NOT SO TALL AS WE THOUGHT WE WERE . . . AND NOT SO SMART. BUT WE FIND THAT SOMEHOW WE LEARNED A DECISIVE LESSON AT SCHOOL; SOMETHING WE WOULDN’T HAVE HAD WITHOUT THE TEACHERS AND FRIENDS, WITHOUT GOD AND RELIGION - A DIRECTION INTO THAT UNCERTAIN TOMORROW. IT CAN NEVER BE SO DARK AGAIN THOUGH THE WORLD MAY CHANGE AND THE TIME CHANGES AND WE CHANGE.
