STEPHEN L. IUHNSUN CAPTAIN, U.S.N. Born in Elkador, Iowa, Commander Pendleton entered the service in 1943 and was first stationed at SCTC, Key West, Florida. He proceeded from this school to the USS J. D. BLACKWOOD where he spent the remainder of World War II, as Nav- igator, ASW, and Operations Officer. A period of inactive reserve followed, and in 1951 he returned to active duty as a member of the Training Publications Department at BuPers. He then reported to the USS Ammen as Executive Officer, and in 1957 became an instructor at the NROTC unit in Lincoln, Nebraska. Commander Pendleton reported to the TRUCKEE from NAVACTS, Italy, where he spent three years as Administrative Officer. Prior to the publication of this book, Com- mander Pendleton will report to the USS TI-IOR QARC-21 as Commanding Officer. At the present, Commander Pendleton resides in No rfolk, Vir ginia with his wife and three children, Jonathan Robert 5, Heather Anne 3, and Charles Allen 1. Captain Stephen L. Johnson, USN, entered the rom Indiana and graduated from the U. S.. Naval Academy in 1939. Navy f During World War II, Captain Johnson served in submarines, Commanding USS S-32 in 1944, and USS SEGUNDO in 1945. Post war duties included assignments as Commanding Officer, USS BERGALL and USS STORMES, Commander Destroyer Division 232 and duty with the NATO Standing Group in Paris. His most recentassignments were in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D. C. Captain Johnson is entitled to Wear the Silver Star. Captain Johnson is married to the former Elizabeth Thurston. They now have two children Susan 16, and Stephen 6. I.
