Mariana Mauk Managing Editor . . .Iames DeWeese 7444, Jlich Selma! -- foo Zfeafu UM "At last they came to where Reflection sits, . . . that strange old woman, who had always one elbow on her knee, and her chin in her hand, and who steals light out ofthe past to shed it on the future." From 1852 to 1952-Troy High School is one hundred years old. Reflection does draw light out of those years. That light shines on the future. The 1952 edition of the "Trojan" gives a picture of the present Troy High. The High School points proudly to the achievements of the 100 years of its existence. Only through the loyal, sincere efforts of faculty, students, and citizens of Troy for a century have these splendid achievements been possible. During the century of Troy High School's life, thousands of students have shared its growth. The contributions of these students to home life, to re- ligious and social life, to many fields of science, to industry, to government, to sports--these are the standards by which Troy High School is judged. Troy High School was organized in 1852, with a student body of seventy-five. ln 1952 the student body numbers 650. ln 1852, the first superintendent, William N. Edwards, and one other teacher composed the faculty. The pres- ent high school faculty has thirty-three members. ln the first high school there was no established course of study, and most of the pupils studied the common English branches. The present course of study includes the follow- ing branches: College Preparatory Subjects, Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Business Education, and Physicial Education, Art, and Music Programs. The courses offer over fifty different classes in which 1952 students have worked. Reflections also show Troy High School in 1852 in the old Edwards Building, one built prior to the present structure on West Main Street. From 1885 to 1915, the old Kyle Building was Troy High. ln 1915 the Van Cleve Building became the High School. ln 1931 the Van Cleve Auditorium, and in 1949 the Arts and Industries Building completed a century's growth of Troy High School. Eleven superintendents have successfully guided the growth of the school during its 100 years. Their terms of service are as follows: W. N. Edwards 1849-1867 H. A. Thompson 1867-1871 L. V. Ferris 1871-1874 H. P. Ufford 1874-1875 J. W. Doud 1875-1880 ' J. F. McCaskey 1880-1884 C. L. Van Cleve 1884-1902 R. M. Brown 1902-1906 C. W. Cookson 1906-1919 T. E. Hook 1919-1947 G. B. Jeffers 1947 . . . These Reflections have shown highlights in Troy High School's life, drawing light out of the past and shedding it on the future, that another century of students may continue to sing, A "Oh, Troy High, live an forever, We'll ever praise thy name." Declicdion Because he shares with us his rich experience in all fields of music, and strives ic foster in us an appreciation of qocd music as an essential in happy living, the Senior Class dedicaies the l952 'lTrojan" to Mr. Charles E.
