I. .1 ' ' 'iii' S8lli0I' CIEISS hiSt0l'Y Enthusiastic, eager to become a real part of the student body, our class of 156 entered Troy High in 1936 determined to participate whole-heartedly in the multifarious activities of school life. As freshmen, most of our energies were devoted to scholastic achievements. Mark Hance had the honor of being awarded a trip to Washington, D. C., for writing a winning essay in the American Legion Essay Contest. As sophomores, we entered many extra-curricular activities, giving them our support and receiving much valuable experience in return. This year Richard Miller was fortunate in winning a trip to Washington, D. C., awarded by the American Legion Essay Contest Committee. By our junior year, we had become more completely adjusted to high school life and were able to assume many leadership responsibilities. Hay- den Young, Thomas Shanesy, Fred Hosley, and Marjorie Pettay were class oflicers. Eight juniors, Gene Schnell, Marjorie Pettay, Barbara West, Leta Mae Buchanan, Fred Hosley, Mark Hance, Frederick Chaney, and Richard Miller were elected to the National Honor Society. Several of our athletes won their "T's" in varsity sports. In the field of entertainment we spon- sored the highly successful "Junior Revue", helped with the Van Cleve Vanities, and presented an impressive Senior Farewell Chapel. Then, as seniors, we entered the most outstanding year of our T. H. S. career, presiding over most of the clubs and projects carried out by the school. Our officers were Hayden Young, Frederick Chaney, Leta Mae Buchanan, and Mark Hance. Seniors elected to the National Honor Society were Mary Carolyn Barnett, Doris Davis, Doris Hampton, Kathryn Myers, and Robert Vandeveer. Outstanding social events of the year were the Senior Dinner, April 30, the Junior-Senior Prom, May 24-, and the class rplay, 4'The Green Vine,', May 17. Scholastically an outstanding class, we have consistently placed winners in the Annual Ohio Scholarship Tests held at Miami University. Thirteen seniors also participated in the Senior Scholarship Test. After Baccalaureate on May 26, Commencement Exercises were held May 29 with William E. Wickenden, President of Case School of Applied Science as the guest speaker. Frank C. Montross, President of the Board of Education presented diplomas to 119 seniors. Under the capable direction of Mr. Bay, the officers and various committees discharged their duties well. The Junior-Senior Dance was the one social activity of the school year. For the Junior Chapel Program, they presented, "The Shooting of Dan- gerous Dan McGrew,,' which was highly entertaining. The class voted upon several rings chosen by the ring and pin committee. In their three years in school, this class has become well-known for pro- ficiency in athletics and scholarship. Their senior year and their future years after school will undoubtedly be highly successful too. spam ,Q-mn vu 'gr iunior 1: ass Juanita Allen William Archer Geraldine Arnnld Juanita Arthur Kay Barnes ,af Q' In layne Bigley Martha Bigley Virginia Brelland Betty Brinkman Lucille Hrnmn M .lolin Bushong Elizabeth Butcher Nancy Collins Carolyn Cnnard Vernon Curry Robert Davis K1 Loretta Dean Luis llcweese Jane Donovan Marvin Drake adm.,-.1 n,.- I, Charlea l-Iizleiniller i Belly lilirker XE, Jay limricli .lark tfay .rf Peggy lfiali .loyre Geismun llale Hilnlioncy up Marion Hull G4-urge Hartzell Kathryn Hartzell James Hawley Glen Hugh' Perry Huneyman Barbara l'lnffor1l Mary Hunt Helen .larrell Evelyn Orxille .lenknif Hope .lolinsun Rnlll Kadel Vernon Kahl Palriria Karni Ah Williuln Knapp .lnanila Lande- 1 Anna Lee Lippinvull W- imnrimi Linlejuhn William Beck Robert Brown Naomi Dau Carl Dulley Virginia lingli li ' lean laxnule Lowell Gigundet George Fray "" Nancy Hitvlicmlm Wallace Hogan Phyllis Robert Loop Mary Ellen Macy Norman Matson Betty Ann Mattofks Carolyn McDonald Marie McMaken Richard M:-Mullen Rirhard Meredith Joan Metcalf Everett Mirk Geraldine Mishler Hernire Moist Lois Moneysmith Mary Eleanor Moody Dorothy Mundhenk William Musgrave Ruth Nordquist Marion Nnss Eugene Palsgrove Ivan Pearson Irene Prtrrseim Mary Pour Arthur Powell Elijah Ray Lury Carolyn Rodgers Elwnozl Rocser Mary Ross Virginia Sands Paul Sarher Barham Saul-r Charles Sayers Dorothy Scnggs Nancy Sealy Virtor Shook Lois Shrnyer James Slifer , 'ww' 4 iunior class n 'lu ,ww A 'hr-H 'mi- ' 1 fy M 1 L., 'Q' j -P. vm! .nt 41 tw ,pf 'Q- .lames Smith Louise Stanley -- H Herbert Sullivan - V Charles Tamplin s, i fn' Evelyn Tevklenhe-rg l 1 M ws' "'f- Laura Yan Ausslal 6 - ill' 3 2, - 4 . 4 an . ,. VY.-A f- . . .4 'EE ' - SIJDITS write-un football The Trojans did not have a successful football year as rated by their record of two wins, six losses, and two ties, but they did defeat Piqua, and thus, the season was successful from the viewpoint of the fans. This is only the second time that Troy has ever beat Piqua in both basketball and football in the same year. Coach Manuel will have a veteran team next year with f-ourteen letter men returning. These are Rogers, Mere- dith, Bell, Blue, Devilbiss, Hare, Hogle, Jenkins, Little- john, McConnell, Newman, Quisenberry, Dave Smitley, and Warwick. basketball The Trojans, defending league champions, failed to retain the title this season. Troy won six and lost eleven games. However, Troy beat Piqua, a feat which is some consolation. This year the team took a three day trip, the first in the history of the school. The letter men for next year are Hall, Slack, Davies, Smallen- barger, E. Tucker, Buirley, and M. Tucker. golf The golf team coached by Roy Zook, is a contender for the league title again this year. Last year the boys had a successful season but finished three strokes away from the league title at the tournament. Slifer, King, and Knife are three veterans from last year's squad, who will form the nucleus for this yearis team. tennis Coach Carl Vesper has several experienced tennis men back from last year. They are Easley, Harris, the Allen brothers, and Vandeveer. Last year William Harrelson won the league singles title. This makes the second straight year Troy has captured the singles championship. track Coach William Howald is lacking in veterans for this year's track team. There are but four letter men back. They are McMath, Bell, Newman, and Miller. However, there are some promising younger classmen around whom Coach Howald expects to build his team in the next few years. The use of 'Troy's track at the athletic field will stim- ulate interest in the track team this year. baseball This year is the second year that Troy has had a baseball team that competed in the league race. The prospects for this year appear to be good as Coach Manuel has six letter men back from last year. These are Shanesy, Hall, Bailey, Eshelman, Millet, and Col- lins. With this veteran team, the Trojans should have a good ball club. girls' athletic association The 194-0 school year is about over and so brings the eleventh successful sport program of the G. A. A. to a close. This organization has membership of ap- proximately 125. To belong to the G. A. A., a girl must earn 50 points in intramural sports for which she receives a numeral. When she has 4-00 points, she has earned a T.H.S. monogram, and when she has 800 points, she receives a UT". The season opened with volley ball. The sophomore team, captained by Naomi Campion, won the champion- ship. The main sport of the year was basketball, played in the manner of Round Robin. Champions were chosen in each class. Room 24 was the champion of the freshmen, Room 32 won the sophomore cham- pionship, and Nancy Collins' team won the C. A. A. and junior championship. The members of the G. A. A. attended three play days, one at Sidney, in November, one in Troy, in February, and the last one at Bradford, in April. The first week in April, the G. A. A. began the base- ball season and tennis matches which concluded the activities ofthe year. casting club This club was organized this year for those boys who are interested in bait casting. The club's advisor is Mr. Pcttay assisted by the clubis two officers Glenn Hogle and William Musgrave. The club has bi-weekly meetings to which they invite speakers from time to time. The activities of the club have created a growing interest in casting throughout the school. f:- ' A .:... ..,.,' ' Q A '.-, , 5 ew E!
