V But we have met responsibilities, and we were far more serious end interested in must the future held for us than we dared show you. nur years in the schoolroom hrwe taught us good habits and nrouptness, obedience to regulations, necessity for discipline, respect for authority,' and all those taings that count when we take our places in a orld of grown-ups and enter the serious busiress of making a living. They are broth. Let us say then that Alma TL..ter has given us the "broth of life." But we lack sonething else. we lack experience. That's sonething Alma Mater ceuldn't give us. we new call upon. you, my friends, to Live us experience. In other words, .-'. give us nthe b:ead.n Only in tue fields of Lchicvements can we get this coveted experience. ee, too, would invent and create and climb and soar with you. Alma Mater has whipped us into shape. She has trained us mentally, morally, and physically, and new she is saying good-night to us. Her task is finished, her day's work is done. She, too, can put on her night cap and steal away for ' a long-needed rest. Now, here's to all good wishes and a pleasant evening Q 5 3 5 1 5 Z E 5 E as the class of 1948 plays like it's Alma Mater's children. 1 :E HISTORY Chapto 1 In the beginning, the fourth and fortieth year of our Lord, there entered into this Land of Learning, eighty seekers of knowledge. And it came to pass that they were so divided into two groups of learning with Miss Leach, now Mrs. Harper and Mr. Wood as home room teachers, and both did gather together to appoint their leaders, and of the groupe they did appoint as follows: Don Ledbetter, Presidentg Peggy Crouch, Vice-Presidcntg Letty Faye Smithg Secretary and Treasurer. Lnapt. -11 Now it came to pass at the beginning of the second year they were pounced upon by a certain band of warriors who were called Seniors and did compete with them in the Girls Class Basketball Tournament, and Lol They were strong and mighty in battle and did triumpth over that band of warriors. Now it so happened that in this land they were again as two groups with Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Craven teachers. This year they welcomed to their class Sara Henneberger. Again they did gather to elect their leaders as followsz Don Led- better, presidentg Peggy Crouch, vice-presidentg Faye Smith, secretary and treasurer. That year they did gather at Smithermans Bridge and did have an enjoyable picnic. Chapt. 111 And it came to pass at the beginning of the third year this class did give a play entitled WYoure The Doctorn, so as to raise money for the treasury. That year they honored the Seniors at a lovely Banquet at the Agriculture Building. Again they did ather to elect their leaders as follows: Don sedbetter, Presidentg Peggy Crouch Vice-Presidentg Sara enneberger, Secretary an Treasurer. They had as teachers Mr. Parks and Mrs. McQueen. They welcomed Eleanor Nulinix to their class that year. , ' ' Chept . 1V 15 I V .A--....., , I x Now this, the fourth year of this gre.t and wonderful class, has been one of much hard labor, and yet e joyous one, for it is led by Mrs. Winn. The officers for this fourth yeer were as follows: Don Ledbetter, President, Jack Morris, Vice Smith, Treasurer. their class. Now night of a full m Theater Party wus John Allen, Mr. 8 and forty honored Presidcntg Marie Saunders, Secreteryg Faye This year they welcomed Billy Thayer to it so hsnpened that this class picked a on and did have e hay-ride, and then a given by the Mascots Parents, Mr. e Mrs. Mrs. Raymond Perry. The Senior play entitled HA NOSE FOR NEWS,n was given, that entered this verily I say unto to graduation and So it hes come to pass that of the eighty land, only thirty-seven shall depurt, for you, th -rer t narrow is the wuy that leads few there be who find it. Alma Mater, We'll harbor in fond memory Our days beneath try roof, All clothed in thy strong armor, And fed by thy wisdom and truth. Your love was ever uppermost when discipline you did apply, To make us brave, obedient, wise, and always on ourselves rely. We'll not forget vour sheltering care, The lessons we learned at thy door, and joys together we did share As humble children upon thy floor. This lowly little cottage here, To us has been a vast domain, In which we traveled o'er many miles, Up and down the land of brain. Upward over cliffs of languages, Bearing a load of history dates, In a downpour of French phonetics, We toiled with our classmates. We climbed the hills of mathematics, And waded deep in geometry land, and sometimes rose and sailed to those Legendary Castles in Spain. O foster parentl - O fostering light! Thou hast set thy lamp aglow In the highest window yonder that Marks the path down which we go. No doubt the journey will be long, And o'er many lands welll roam, But one thing I know, our heart's will quicken when we turn again home. Taxing everythlng into conslderat dnl wwe out number our spells of stupidity. This is due, largelyg ?to the painstaking efforts and earnest adnonitions of our ifaculty. As we are assembled here for the last time, we lrealize more fully than ever before, the advantages that have lbeen ours and the way in which the rugged path of learning shes been smoothed for our stumbling feet. sTo our teachers we extend our heartfelt thanks for the edu- 1cational privileges it has been possible for us to enioy. 'If, in the years to come, we prove to be citizens worthy of four great cou try, we shall remember it was here, in our early jyears, that the fou dation of learning aspiration and high l 'ideals was laid. we hope that the greatful thanks, love, 1 Land appreciation of your students will, in some measure, icompensate you for the work you have done with us and for us.
