Captain William L Adams was commls sloned an Ensign upon completion of Aviation Training in 1942. After serving in various squadrons embarked in USS LEXINGTON, Captain Adams served as a flight instructor from 1945 to 1948 at Naval Air Training Com- mands in Jacksonville, Miami and Pensacola, Florida. Captain Adams saw action in Korea while embarked in USS ORISKANY. In 19.55, he be- came Commanding Officer of Fighter Squad- ron 24, embarked in USS ESSEX and USS SHANGRI-LA. After graduating from the Naval War Col- lege, he served at the Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, California. In 1960, Cap- tain Adams joined the staff of Commander Carrier Division Two in the Atlantic Fleet. Assigned as Executive Officer of the USS MIDWAY in 1962, he was selected for his present rank in September of that year. After serving in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations, and with the Staff of the Commander, First Fleet, Captain Adams assumed command of the USS PLATTE in March 1966. He relieved Captain Henry Suer- stedt as Commanding Officer of the USS TRIPOLI on September 7, 1967. H W ff -M.
