LIFE I i PASCAGCULA Pascagoula, located on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, was the building yard for the TRIPOLI. It was here her keel was laid and the hull of the assault carrier took shape. For a brief period, during the last months of TRIPOLI's construction, Pascagoula became the home for the nucleus crew of 150 officers and men of the TRIPOLI Pre-Commissioning detail. Pascagoula offered a slow, lazy life with a wide variety of recreation for the sports- man and the nightowl, as well as ample per diem to aid the local economy. There was al- ways something to occupy one's idle moments -a favorite sport, a favorite night spot, or, for the bachelors perhaps, a favorite girl. Fond memories of Pascagoula remain with TRIPOLI and will be carried with her wherever she goes. Learning how to take it easy
