TRIPOLI's first Executive Officer, Com- mander George H. Sidel, was commissioned a Naval Aviator in April 1944. He soon re- ceived assignment in VBF-8 as a fighter- bomber pilot on the USS BENNINGTON QCV-207. Commander Sidel was separated from the service in 1945 and received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State. Prior to his recall to active duty during the Korean conflict, he worked as a design engi- neer. In July 1952, Commander Sidel reported for helicopter flight training at Pensacola. He served with Helicopter Unit One and HS-2, the first operational helicopter anti-submarine squadron on the West Coast. Since then, he has had tours as Assistant Bureau of Weapons Representative at Bell Helicopter Corpora- tion, Assistant Air Officer on board the USS PRINCETON KLPH-53, Operations Officer for Helicopter Squadron Six and Training Officer for Helicopter Squadron Ten. Commander Sidel came to the TRIPOLI from Helicopter Squadron Six as its Com- manding Officer. He is now serving on the staff of the Commander, Naval Air Forces, Pacific Fleet. xvnvff i .gg . ,Tx I X Captain George Prassinos, TRIPOLI's present Executive Officer, was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1944. He served with both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets during World War II. Following the war, Captain Prassinos worked at what is now known as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration QNASAD. t the outbreak of the Korean War, Cap- tain Prassinos served with Patrol Squadron 861 until September 1952. He was then order- ed to the United States Army Guided Missile School in Fort Bliss, Texas. pon his acceptance of a regular com- mission as Lieutenant in 1955, Captain Prass- inos was ordered to the Navy's first guided missile ship, USS NORTON SOUN CAVM-15, where he served until 1957. In 1962, Captain Prassinos was promoted to the rank of Commander. Following duty with Patrol Squadron 22, where he served as Executive, and later, Commanding Officer, he was assigned to Patrol Squadron 31 as Com- manding Officer.
